Found June 09, 2012 on The Outside Corner:
The dynamic Washington Nationals duo of Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper stepped into hallowed ground for the first time in their young careers on Friday night, as the Nationals traveled to Boston to take on the Red Sox. Under the bright lights of Fenway Park and squarely in the nation's focus, the pair of rising stars proved that they were far and away the best players on the field on Friday night in the Nationals' 7-4 victory. Strasburg started the game for the Nationals, and went six innings. He allowed two earned runs on just four hits while walking two. Oh yeah, he also struck out 13, which ties his season high. The 119 pitches Strasburg threw was his highest total of the season, and the first time he's hit triple digits since May 10th against the Pirates...when he struck out 13. Imagine that. In two June starts, Strasburg has struck out 22 while walking two and has just allowed two runs in 13 innings. That'll do, kid. As for Harper, he set Fenway on f...

"He does the little things. He’s good for the sport." (Dustin Pedrioa, via Boston Globe, 6/9/2012) Little things...and the big things, too. Big things like in the video below of Bryce Harper's 420+ foot home run at Fenway Park last night. The kid put on quite the show: 3-5, HR, 2B, 3 RBI. Your browser does not support iframes. Hey, even David Ortiz...

Strasburg, Harper wow 'em in Boston

Boston got its first look at Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper on Friday, and it is safe to assume the New England faithful went home pretty impressed. Strasburg struck out 13 hitters and Harper slammed a 420-foot home run in the Nationals' 7-4 victory over Boston to open the series. Nationals manager Davey Johnson even admitted it was an amazing sight. "It was fun...

Strasburg's 13 K's lead Nats over BoSox

Stephen Strasburg struck out 13 in six innings, Bryce Harper homered and the Washington Nationals beat the Boston Red Sox 7-4 on Friday night for the franchise's first victory at Fenway Park. Harper hit a two-run shot in the fourth and an RBI single in the sixth as the club improved to 1-9 at Boston's iconic home. The Montreal Expos dropped all six of their games there before...

Bryce Harper Relishes Fenway Park Atmosphere, Exceeds Expectations Against Red Sox

BOSTON –– And then, there was Bryce Harper. Lost in the shuffle of Stephen Strasburg's extraordinary outing was the performance of the Nationals' 19-year-old phenom. Upon stepping into the batter's box on Friday, the first overall pick of the 2010 MLB Draft was welcomed to a few boos. But Harper delivered the knockout punches in the 7-4 victory over the Red Sox, going...

The Nationals Can't Spell Strasburg and the Twins Don't Know Their Players' Names

If you're the Washington Nationals and you've already been widely embarrassed by having your team play a real professional baseball game with the team's name MISSPELLED on the uniform, one would think they would take steps to ensure something like that never happens again. It would also probably behoove the Nationals to make sure that when selling the uniform of the team...

Bryce Harper: "I'm good. Don't worry about it."

Raise your hand if you reached for the panic button when Bryce Harper dropped to his knees after diving for (and missing) what turned into a triple by David Wright in the 9th inning on Thursday afternoon. Harper stayed in the game: exhale. And then Davey Johnson revealed after the game that Harper has been dealing with back pain, and could be out of the lineup against the Red...

Your Morning Dump... Where it was the Strasburg and Harper show

(Photo by Jim Rogash/Getty Images) Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Thank you, Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg. It’s rare enough to walk into a ballpark one afternoon in any month of a long baseball season and be genuinely amped about...

Red Sox prepare for first meeting with Strasburg

On Friday night, most of the Boston Red Sox will get their first up-close look at Washington Nationals phenom Stephen Strasburg. Cody Ross predicts they will be impressed. Ross, sidelined for the past few weeks while recovering from a fracture in his left foot, faced Strasburg in on July 9, 2010, as a member of the San Francisco Giants. He recalled that the Giants were sure they...

Red Sox' Gamble on Mark Prior Showing Early Signs of Paying Off

Before there was Stephen Strasburg, there was Mark Prior. A decade ago, Prior was the can't-miss pitcher, a distinction that resulted in the Cubs selecting him second overall during the 2001 MLB Draft. After one All-Star season in 2003, Prior's career was derailed by shoulder, elbow and groin issues. Prior hasn't thrown a single pitch in the majors since 2006. Yet, the...

Mike Trout & Bryce Harper - In Elite Company For Best Young Stars To Ever Play The Game

By Jason Sinner - AngelsWin.com Columnist I would like to take a moment to congratulate both Mike Trout and Bryce Harper on their admission to the Baseball Hall of Fame. It was very forward thinking of the baseball writers association to revamp the criteria for acceptance.  It is not surprising considering the general propensity for those in baseball to be accepting of...

Bryce Harper Is More Hyped, but Would You Rather Have Will Middlebrooks?

By now, most baseball fans have heard of uber prospect, teen sensation Bryce Harper. The 19 year old has played in 35 games for the Nationals this season, and has yet to disappoint. He has hit 5 home runs, knocked in 14, and has hit .276. Harper's hustle is evident as he has scored 23 runs and stolen 3 bases. He has also successfully stolen home, but has occasionally been thrown...

Red Sox Need to Find Ways to Have Quality At-Bats Against Quality Pitching (Video)

It's no secret that the Washington Nationals have great pitching. And the last two days, the Red Sox have had to go up against not only the Nats' top two hurlers, but two of the top young pitchers in the game. The Sox had never seen Stephen Strasburg before Friday, but they have had a chance to look at Gio Gonzalez while he was with Oakland, so the team clearly needs to find...

Nationals Sweep Red Sox And Show Baseball They’re The Real Deal

The Washington Nationals entered Boston on Friday without a single win at Fenway Park in their franchise’s history, including their time in Montreal. After three games in America’s oldest ballpark, the 2012 Nats made a huge change to that information. The Nats swept the Red Sox in a three-game series, moving them to 12-games above .500 on the season. Coming to you from the...
