The Braves are transitioning to a six man starting rotation today, when they activate Tommy Hanson off of the DL. However, last night's performance from Kris Medlen has really made the conversation about how to knock out of the rotation on August 30th a little silly. Medlen threw a complete game shutout in Atlanta's 6-0 win over the Padres. Not bad for a guy who had Tommy John surgery two years ago, and was primarily a reliever during his major league career. Since the All-Star Break, the highest ERA of any of Atlanta's five current starters is 3.64, held by veteran Tim Hudson. The next lowest belongs to the once-embattled Mike Minor, who has a sparkling 2.39 ERA since that mid-July time off. If that's what Hanson is going to have to pitch like in his opportunity over the rest of the month, he's got a long road ahead of him. Game of the Night: Diamondbacks 2, Cardinals 1. This wasn't the most exciting game, but the finish was pretty crazy. The Car...

Chipper Jones still plans to retire despite his recent tear, and that's a decision that should sit well with baseball fans. Jones' farewell tour is better than any you'll see in the music industry. This season, he's not only been every bit of the future Hall of Famer he's been for 19 years, but he has the Braves primed to make a postseason push. Yet, despite the...

Chipper's big night puts fans on their feet

The last time I wrote about Chipper Jones for doing something other than contributing to the demise of the English language with his "Twitta!" account, he had just gone 5-for-5 and been selected to his final NL All-Star team. He's had plenty of big moments since early July and has continued to amaze Braves fans with his exploits at the grand old age of 40. And when...

ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann says he has a cyst and a frayed labrum in his right shoulder. Even so, McCann is upset he's not starting for the second straight game. (Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By PAUL NEWBERRY AP Sports Writer Chipper Jones still has those glorious moments that every ballplayer cherishes, from a Little Leaguer just starting out to a 40-year-old on the way out. When the Atlanta Braves third baseman had his first two-homer game in more than three years, he was so amped up that he spilled water all over...

Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix, August 17, 2012: Medlen & Harvey dominate

Every year, some guys come out of nowhere in the second half of the fantasy baseball season and this year that has been Kris Medlen. The former top pitching prospect for Atlanta who has battled injuries in recent years tossed a five-hit shutout with six strikeouts. He showed he is fully healthy with 104 pitches and he should remain in the rotation with the Braves temporarily moving...
