Monday was supposed to be a day celebrating the achievements of one of baseball's most figures, Jackie Robinson. And when the Red Sox beat the Rays 3-2 on Patriots Day to kick off a day of baseball, it was expected that the rest of the day would follow suit. Then, the nightmarish bombing at the Boston Marathon happened, and everything took on a different meaning. Sports didn't seem important over the rest of the day on Monday, and a day later, I'm not sure how important they really are. All we can do is pray for the victims and keep them in our minds as we attempt to move on with our lives. PIC OF THE DAY Dodgers partial owner Magic Johnson honors Jackie Robinson pregame with Robinson's widow Rachel and his daughter Sharon. (Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports) Game of the Night: Reds 4, Phillies 2. In Cincinnati on Monday night, Bronson Arroyo and Cliff Lee hung zeroes on the board for six innings, with Ben Revere's unreal catch in the second helping out Lee's cause. But in the seventh, the Reds broke through after Joey Votto scored on a wild pitch by Lee and Todd Frazier drove in Brandon Phillips with a sac fly. But the Phillies fought back in the eighth, tying the game after a Chase Utley two-run homer. But in the bottom of the eighth, the Phillies' rebuilt bullpen faltered. Jeremy Horst allowed an infield single to Derrick Robinson and a double to Zach Cozart before intentionally walking Votto to load the bases for Phillips. Charlie Manuel pulled Horst and brought in Mike Adams, who immediately allowed a two-run single to Phillips to put the Reds on top 4-2. Adams then allowed a single to Jay Bruce to once again load the bases before getting out of the jam with no more damage. But in the ninth, Aroldis Chapman starched the heart of the Phillies order to preserve the win. Pitching Lines of the Night: In the aforementioned 3-2 Sawx win over the Rays in Boston, Ryan Dempster allowed one run on two hits over seven innings, striking out ten and walking two. Jeremy Hellicksno was nearly as good for Tampa Bay, allowing two runs on three hits in seven innings, striking out nine and walking one. Jordan Zimmernann threw a complete game in Washington's 10-3 win over Miami, allowing three runs on six hits, walking one and striking out six. Hitting Lines of the Night: The Angels fell to the Twins 8-2 thanks to Joe Mauer giong 4/5 with two runs, three RBI, a double, and a homer. In that offensive explosion for the Nationals in Miami, Ian Desmond went 4/5 with two RBI and two doubles, while Ryan Zimmerman went 2/5 with two runs, four RBI, and his first homer of the year. The Cardinals beat the Pirates 10-6, and Jon Jay went 2/4 with three runs, two RBI, a walk, and a dobule. In the losing effort, Neil Walker went 2/5 with a two-run homer. Other Games: The Blue Jays edged the White Sox 4-3, potentially slowing their panic train. The A's pounded the Astros 11-2 thanks to a six run first inning. The Padres beat the Dodgers 6-3 thanks to a three-run homer and a quality start from pitcher Eric Stults. The Mets and Rockies were snowed out, and have a doubleheader scheduled for today. What You Missed: Joe Maddon, not a bunting enthusiast. Today's Games: We've got three interleague series going on to begin this week, with Brandon McCarthy and the Diamondbacks taking on the Yankees in New York, Jeremy Guthrie and the Royals taking on Kris Medlen and the white hot Braves in Atlanta, and the Rangers and Cubs battling in Chicago. Josh Johnson will start for the Blue Jays against the White Sox. Dan Haren starts for the Nationals in Miami. Doug Fister gets the nod for the Tigers in Seattle.  National TV: Phillies-Reds (7 PM, MLB Network), Diamondbacks-Yankees (7 PM, MLB Network [alternate]) Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone.
