Over the years Jermaine Dye's name has come up numerous times in rumors about the Mets. Dye never ended up being moved but now he's a free agent after the White Sox decided to not pick-up his option ( source Metsblog). At 35 y/o the right hander, has struggled through injuries and doesn't play the field very well. He has hit .250 two of the last four years but still produces 27 or more home runs. I think he's an aging veteran that we should avoid who could have the results of Moises Alou and Gary Sheffield, still those power numbers are tempting. Why do I keep hearing myself say low base salary with incentive laden contract.Marcus Thames on the other hand sound much more appealing as a right hander off the bench. The 32 y/o wouldn't be limited to platoon with Murphy at 1B since he also plays a solid left field. Thames has spent a decent amount of time at DH which tells me he can come off the bench and hit cold, meaning he should be successful at late inning pinch...
