The Indians were smart. Someone decided that they would allow the fans to say thank you to Omar before the game even started. A tribute video was shown, and Omar was coaxed out of the visitor's dugout with a standing ovation. The out-pour lasted somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 minutes. As I said, it was a smart move. It allowed Omar and both teams really to focus once the game got underway. Each time he came to bat there was a smaller ovation, but having had the chance to cheer and scream for as long as we wanted earlier, the Indians kept the game moving and allowed the teams to focus.
I wrote a short time ago about different types of sports fans. Tuesday was most certainly a night for the Romantics and Back of the Jersey fans. The video tribute was excellent, showcasing spectacular plays that truthfully were quite routine with #13 patrolling the middle of the infield.
