I praised Brian Cashman throughout the off-season for all the moves he made. I was, and still am, among those who liked the trades of Gary Sheffield, Randy Johnson and Jaret Wright -- each of which brought back young pitching talent. I was even OK with the signing of Kei Igawa. Right now, however, things aren't working out quite the way Cashman had planned.

  • Be patient, Ed. The Yankees are doing the right thing by taking it slow with Igawa. Forget about the money for a second and think about what's best for him and the yankees in the long run. Let him gain confidence in the minors or in middle relief and then let him start. It's a major professional and culture shock to come from Japan to play in the Majors. Owners never give these guys enough time to transition, they just play them and expect them to light it up. I still believe had Kaz Matsui gone to a smaller market team and had been handled better, he could have become an All-Star. The Mets ruined any chance of him ever making it.
  • 1999 ... I was trying to show some patience, but was just pointing out that initial impressions have not been great. I love the new direction of the franchise, and it will really be years before you know exactly what the Yankees have gotten back from these various deals.
