Last night Edinson Volquez pitched for the Louisville Bats, the Cincinnati Reds Triple A affiliate, against the Toledo Mud Hens.
Making his ninth start since being demoted in mid-July, Volquez was perfect through five
innings. He was tagged with the loss after giving up 3 ER , 3 H, 3 W and 6 K in 7.2 innings.
This season at Louisville, the 28 year old Dominican, is 3-2 with an ERA of 2.42. It is his 8th quality start in his last 10 games.
As Volquez has learned the hard way there is no ‘I’ in the word ‘team’. Before being sent down the first time in May, he was vocally critical of his team’s lack of offense on his behalf.
That was then, this is now. I guess in a way that second demotion was tantamount to him receiving a phone call from Copernicus saying he was not the center of the universe.
