The San Diego Padres acquired UT Eric Patterson as the ‘player to be named later’ from the Boston Red Sox to complete the Adrian Gonzales trade.
Patterson was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs and was ranked as their 6th best prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2007 season. His minor league numbers shows that he has some speed on the base paths.
He is a .303 hitter in the minors but he has not been able to hit for average in the big leagues. He will need to work on hitting major league pitching.
“He can play all over the place and he’s a good, versatile guy.” – Jed Hoyer
