Fox Sports West:
LOS ANGELES Center fielder Andre Ethier was scratched from the Dodgers' starting lineup Tuesday night because of calf tightness, but that development was tempered by the news that shortstop Hanley Ramirez will start Wednesday in the final game of the homestand.
Manager Don Mattingly said there were "no issues" with Ramirez's right shoulder, which he injured chasing a fly ball into the stands Aug. 4 in Chicago. In his absence, the Dodgers are 7-1 entering Tuesdays game against the New York Mets.
The Dodgers had initially planned to wait until Friday, when they opened a road trip at Philadelphia, to start Ramirez. But Mattingly said it was decided to let Ramirez play on Wednesday and give him Thursdays off day to recover and be evaluated.
He was available to pinch hit Tuesday, Mattingly said.
"I feel like there's no issues with his throwing," Mattingly said. "He's ready to play, so he'll play tomorrow."
Ethier has been bothered by tightness in his left calf since he was hit by a pitch in Chicago. He was taken to White Memorial Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon to be examined by a doctor.
"It sounds like he came in today, and the calf he's been fighting was a lot tighter and he was having some trouble with it," Mattingly said.
They wanted the doctor to look at him. I guess it's been a while, and all of a sudden it got worse, so they want a trained professional to look at it."

Dear L.A. Dodgers players, management and staff:
This letter is admittedly a little overdue, and for that, we apologize.
First off, let us belatedly express our heartfelt gratitude for taking Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett — as well as that troublesome $260 million in salary — off our hands. We really would have liked to keep Adrian...
Clayton Kershaw’s so good this season that not only does he appear to be the front-runner for the Cy Young Award, he has to be considered a candidate for the National League MVP Award. (Image source: ESPN at http://thesuicidesqueeze.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/mlb_a_clayton-kershaw_mb_600.jpg)
