Major League Baseball has spent most of the past decade on a witch hunt trying to rid baseball of steroids. For the most part, they’ve succeeded in uncovering athlete’s true identities, tainted records, and atrocious speaking skills in front of Congress. Bud Selig’s indelible mark on baseball will be the cleaning up of a game that was riddled with lies and juice. That’s cool, that’s good, that’s nice. The idea that America’s youth are going to wholly swear off ‘roids is a dumb one at best, hence why guys still get suspended every season for breaching the league’s drug policy. And as for the game itself…well…it’s pretty clear that guys simply aren’t tearing the cover off the ball like they were a mere ten years ago. Fifty home runs is something of a milestone again, not so much a benchmark.
