Sunday’s game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox was incredibly exciting — if you’re a Boston fan. The Red Sox destroyed the Jays by a score of 13-0, with Jon Lester pitching a fantastic game and Will Middlebrooks leading the way on offense with three home runs and a double. Perhaps it was the lopsided affair that inspired one fan as the Rodgers Centre to provide the 40,000-plus in attendance with some unusual entertainment. Many fans have rushed the field at MLB games over the years (some of who have been completely laid out by security), but this guy decided to put a unique spin on it by sliding into second base. He then tried to climb over the outfield wall and escape. This “vine” of a Blue Jays fan on the field is amazing!vine.co/v/bTQlwLIlbhV — Danny (@recordsANDradio) April 8, 2013 Anything worth doing it worth doing right, which is why I certainly ain’t mad at this guy. He went all out and even thought he could get away by scaling a 12-foot wall. He can play f...

Jon Lester Takes Aggressive Approach, Looks Much More Ace-Like in Win Over Blue Jays

Jon Lester has gone up against two Cy Young winners to begin the season. He’s 2-0. Yet while Lester’s Opening Day performance in the Bronx against CC Sabathia was fairly solid, Sunday’s victory over R.A. Dickey and the Blue Jays was much more impressive. Lester never faced any trouble on Sunday, as the Red Sox’ offense gave him a five-run lead before he ever took the mound...

Going, Going, Gone: Boston's Will Middlebrooks Hits Three Home Runs Against Blue Jays

One of the many great things about baseball is that on any given day it is practically impossible not to find at least one amazing play. With so many games being played the odds are heavily in favor of greatness being exhibited somewhere. Sunday that greatness was in evidence in Toronto when Boston Red Sox third baseman found the sweet spot not once...not twice...but three times...

Will Middlebrooks’ Big Day Could Kick Off Something Special, As Red Sox’ Offense Discovers Power Stroke

Wake and rake. It’s a mantra Will Middlebrooks prides himself on, and it steered him in the right direction on Sunday. The third baseman launched three home runs, and the Red Sox blasted six round-trippers in total while finishing up their road trip with a 13-0 blowout win over the Blue Jays. Sunday’s effort was a stark contrast from Saturday, when Middlebrooks went 0-for-3 while...

Red Sox’ Offensive Power Takes Pressure Off Jon Lester As Sox Put Up Numbers In Toronto (Video)

The Red Sox were not short on offense Sunday afternoon as they led a 13-0 rout of the Toronto Blue Jays on their home field. Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks launched three home runs in the matchup, the youngest Boston player to go deep three times in a game since Jim Rice in 1977. That offensive power took some pressure off of starting pitcher Jon Lester, who came away with...

Middlebrooks' 3 homers fuel Red Sox

Will Middlebrooks hit three home runs, two off NL CY Young Award winner R.A. Dickey, and the Boston Red Sox routed the Toronto Blue Jays 13-0 Sunday. Middlebrooks went 4 for 5 with four RBIs. He hit two home runs off Dickey, a two-run shot to right in the first inning and a solo drive into the second deck in left in the fifth. He connected again off Dave Bush with a leadoff longball...

Clay Buchholz Continues to Match Jon Lester’s Early Success, Which Is Exactly What Doctored Ordered for Red Sox

Jon Lester was the Red Sox’ Opening Day starter, and he’s considered the team’s ace in the minds of many. Clay Buchholz, the starter for Monday’s home opener, continues to match the southpaw step for step. Buchholz tossed seven shutout innings against the Orioles on Monday. It marks the second straight outing Buchholz has gone seven innings, and he and Lester now hold a combined...

Your Morning Dump...where Farrell creates a 1-2 punch in Lester and Buchholz

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. The Boston Red Sox, now winners of five of their first seven games, are cruising on the shoulders of their top two pitchers: Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz. Is it too early for the Red Sox to give manager...

Recap: Sox play some long ball to win second straight series

(AP PHOTO/THE CANADIAN PRESS,Chris Young) Will Middlebrooks hit 3 of the Red Sox' 5 homers in a 13-0 rout in Toronto. The Sox welcomed R.A. Dickey to the AL East by knocking him out of game in the 5th after he surrendered 8 runs on 10 hits. Jays reliever, David Bush, couldn't stop the bleeding, surrendering 5 runs on 4 homers in 3 innings of work. Jon Lester countered with...

Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz Setting Tempo, Turning Red Sox’ Rotation Into Consistent Unit

The Red Sox kicked off their home schedule in a big way on Monday. Fenway Park has been known to give the Red Sox a major home-field advantage over the years, but last season was much different, as Boston struggled mightily in front of the home crowd. Fenway was bumping on Monday, though, and it’s clear that this year’s team is already winning folks over. And how could it not...

Vote: Who Is the Red Sox’ Most Important Starting Pitcher This Season?

Clay Buchholz followed Jon Lester‘s strong performance Sunday with seven shutout innings of his own Monday afternoon, which bodes well for the Red Sox’ starting staff this year. After sputtering last season, the starters will now be under the tutelage of John Farrell in Boston, which many onlookers theorized would result in a return to form that the Sox badly needed. With John...

Four Bases: Red Sox 13, Blue Jays 0

What a trip. Those words could be referring to the road trip coming into the home opener, or they could be referring to the baseballs that Will Middlebrooks, Daniel Nava, Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Napoli hit out of the ballpark. The Red Sox dominated their first Sunday game of 2013, and now they take a 4-2 record into the home opener – the first time since 2006 that the Red Sox...
