Format for the fantasy baseball 2012 waiver wire watch:

  • 50-75% Owned- Player qualifies for 10-team league
  • 25-49% Owned- Player qualifies for 12-team league
  • Less than 25% Owned- Player qualifies for 14-team league

Again, these percentages are found on Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball.

10-team league hitter to watch

Danny Espinosa, 2B/SS, WAS

Since July Danny Espinosa has been on a pretty impressive tear.  He is batting .293 after the All-Star break, to go along with 7 HR.  To put that in perspective, Espinosa hit only 7 HR in the entire first half of the season.  His 14 HR rank him among the top four second basemen in the MLB.

An additional plus is that Espinosa is eligible to play 2B and SS in most fantasy leagues.  He is a good source of power from a pretty weak power position.

10-team league pitcher to watch

Casey Janssen, RP, TOR

Casey Janssen has been extremely reliable since taking over the closer’s role for the Blue Jays earlier this season, converting 16 of his 18 opportunities.  Additionally, Janssen has an ERA of 2.27 on the season with a 0.80 WHIP.  He is capable of striking out batters too as proven by his 48 strikeouts in 47.2 IP.  Chances are that he is the best available closer in your fantasy league.

12-team league hitter to watch

Manny Machado, 3B/SS, BAL

The Orioles welcomed their top prospect, Manny Machado, to the MLB a couple weeks ago.  Based on his minor league stats, Machado is a player who is capable of having a decent power/speed combination.  In each of the past two seasons in the minor leagues, Machado produced double digit HRs and SBs.  His shortstop eligibility especially makes him an intriguing option given his ceiling.

12-team league pitcher to watch

Ross Detwiler, SP, WAS

Ross Detwiler’s first full season in the MLB is going about as well as any Nationals fan could have hoped for.  His numbers across the board are solid.  In 122 IP on the season, Detwiler has an ERA of 3.25 to go along with a WHIP of 1.16 and a BAA of .237.  Another impressive part of Detwiler’s season has been his consistency.  There has only been one month in which his ERA this season was over 4.00, and his next highest ERA in any month is 3.28.  Detwiler is a good bet for any fantasy team down the stretch.

14-team league hitter to watch

Justin Ruggiano, OF, MIA

Justin Ruggiano has come out of nowhere to be an amazing potential find for fantasy owners.  In just 187 AB on the season, Ruggiano has belted 11 HR and has 10 SB on the season.  This is an incredible power-speed ratio given his small sample size.  Additionally he has an AVG of .332 to go along with a .388 OBP and .610 SLG on the season.  It’s pretty amazing that fantasy owners have not taken notice yet as he is only owned in 20% on fantasy leagues.  Take a chance on him before word gets out.

14-team league pitcher to watch

Jeff Karstens, SP, PIT

Jeff Karstens has been steady ever since coming off of the DL in late June.  He has pitched at least 6 innings in 7 out of his last 9 starts, while scattering a plethora of quality starts in that time period.  He has a 3.68 ERA since the All-Star break, as well as a very good 1.07 WHIP and .227 BAA.  Especially pay attention to his starts at home this season where he has a 2.12 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP.
