Max Scherzer is the clear cut favorite for the AL Cy Young Award, but in the NL its a tight race between Adam Wainwright and Clayton Kershaw. Wainwright is getting more run support, leading to more W and if he reaches 20, then there is no debate. Wainwright also has walked 20 less batters in 1.1 more innings pitched, and by 20 less batters I mean he has walked 15 batters all season! Some of the biggest surprises here Patrick Corbin, Bartolo Colon, Hisashi Iwakuma, Chris Tillman and Eric Stults who have combined to win 50 games! R.A. Dickey (4.69) and Jon Lester (4.58) are the only two pitchers on this list with an ERA above 4.07. table.tableizer-table { border: 1px solid #CCC; font-family: ; font-size: 12px; } .tableizer-table td { padding: 4px; margin: 3px; border: 1px solid #ccc; } .tableizer-table th { background-color: #104E8B; color: #FFF; font-weight: bold; } Spring Training RankAll-Star BreakNameTeamGS W L CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP BAA Fantasy Points131Adam WainwrightSTL2012542146.213343406151302.4501.010.244437.4212Max ScherzerDET1913100129.296474612311523.1900.980.206418.423Clayton KershawLAD208632145.19736327351391.980.910.188407.754Felix HernandezSEA2010400138.2126433911261402.5301.100.244407.4125Cliff LeePHI1910311138.2117474413211252.861.000.227394.9266Jordan ZimmermannWAS1912431132.111042381018952.580.970.222393.7#N/A7Patrick CorbinARI1911110130.19735349331092.351.000.206390.7808Justin MastersonCLE2010733135.1112565610541373.721.230.227382.7439Matt HarveyNYM197200130.09134347281472.350.920.196369.5#N/A10Bartolo ColonOAK1912322126.21263838915702.701.110.262369.4 table.tableizer-table { border: 1px solid #CCC; font-family: ; font-size: 12px; } .tableizer-table td { padding: 4px; margin: 3px; border: 1px solid #ccc; } .tableizer-table th { background-color: #104E8B; color: #FFF; font-weight: bold; } Spring Training RankAll-Star BreakNameTeamGS W L CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP BAA Fantasy Points1111Madison BumgarnerSF1910500125.085454212341223.0200.950.191369.0112Justin VerlanderDET2010600126.0124524910451253.5001.340.255365.51013CC SabathiaNYY209820137.0139706221301174.0701.230.259360.53314Matt MooreTB1913300107.18342418551083.4401.290.213357.21615Yu DarvishTEX188400119.184424015411573.0201.050.194356.7#N/A16Hisashi IwakumaSEA208400131.1104474421191133.0200.940.216354.74017Mike MinorATL199400122.0106454114261153.0201.080.232350.54418Lance LynnSTL1911400117.010552527411154.0001.250.241349.55119Derek HollandTEX198411125.212449438371213.0801.280.259347.93420C.J. I was so high on him prior to the start of the season but a .224 batting average doesn't work for a catcher, unless they hit 30 home runs. Montero has found his power stroke over the last 30 days, hitting 5 of his 8 homers and driving in 13 of 33 RBI, while scoring 13 of 32 runs. John Buck is still living off of a torrid start to the season, but has hit much better in July, batting .294 with 9 RBI. Gotta love Brian McCann making this list, even though he has played in just 53 games. St. Louis Cardinals: Mid-Season Report Card

Team: St. Louis Cardinals Record: 56-36 ( 1st Place) Biggest Surprise of First Half: It’s difficult to find anything surprising anymore with the Cardinals. After their 2011 World Series win and making it to the NL Championship last year, winning has become the expectation anymore. The offense has been hotter this year than it was last year. With Adam Wainwright leading the pitching...

Preview: Wainwright seeks first win against Cubs in nearly 3 years

Because he's pitching Sunday night, Adam Wainwright likely won't play in the All-Star game. That start, though, gives the St. Louis Cardinals right-hander the chance to end the first half as the NL's only 13-game winner. While seeking that victory and his first against the Chicago Cubs in nearly three years, Wainwright will also try to help St. Louis regain sole possession...

Tigers' Scherzer emerges among AL's best

Max Scherzer finally lost Saturday night in his final start before the All-Star break, but that rough outing did little to detract from what the Detroit right-hander has accomplished over the last year. On a staff that includes former MVP Justin Verlander, Scherzer has earned the most attention lately. At 28, he's in the prime of his career, and whether he starts Tuesday'...

Max Scherzer signed autographs for military personnel prior to the All Star Game

Max Scherzer started the All Star Game for the American League and promptly retired Brandon Phillips, Carlos Beltran and Joey Votto in order.  However, that was far from the best thing Max did on Tuesday.  Prior to the game, Scherzer signed autographs for dozens of military personnel who were allowed on to the field. As Hardball Talk said, Scherzer stopping to sign autographs was...

Max Scherzer named the AL starter for the All-Star Game

Moments ago Tigers RHP Max Scherzer was named the AL starter for the MLB All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York Tuesday. After posting a 13-1 record with a 3.19 ERA and 152 strikeouts, Scherzer seemed like the likely choice for manager Jim Leyland to start things out for the American League. Scherzer’s start also marks the second straight year that a Tigers pitcher starts the...

Scherzer experiences first loss this season

DETROIT (AP) -- Max Scherzer's unbeaten run ended Saturday night when the Texas Rangers tagged the Detroit All-Star with his first loss of the season, defeating the Tigers 7-1. Scherzer (13-1) was trying to become the first pitcher in the majors to start 14-0 since Roger Clemens in 1986. He allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings, walking two and striking out six. It...

Texas Rangers Hand Detroit's Max Scherzer First Loss of the Season

Eventually all good things must come to an end, right? If you need proof just ask Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer. It's been nine months since he last lost a game. Yeah, that's right. I used the past tense. It's been a heck of season for Scherzer this year--13-0 record and a 3.06 ERA. While Tigers fans were likely dreaming that he would manage to go undefeated...

St. Louis Cardinals: Edward Mujica replaces Adam Wainwright in All-Star Game

Since Adam Wainwright started Sunday night’s game against the Chicago Cubs, he is unable to pitch in the All-Star Game on Tuesday. Thus, Edward Mujica has been named to replace his spot on the team. Don’t worry, though, Wainwright will still be making the trip to New York to enjoy the All-Star festivities with his teammates. Season Recap thus far: At the beginning of the...

MLB Game Picks - Tuesday: July 16, 2013

The All Star Game is tonight and I supposed I should pick who is going to win. After all, the road to October starts here. That was only slightly sarcastic. Home field advantage in the World Series is sort of a big deal. We could debate whether something so important should be decided by an exhibition game. I would be against the idea. But there it is. Despite having to get most...

Tigers rumors: Max Scherzer will wait until after the season to discuss contract

The American League's starting pitcher for tonight's All-Star Game, Max Scherzer, is in line for a nice contract extension.  However, he will wait until after the season to discuss the potential new contract.  As is the case with most Scott Boras clients, Scherzer and Boras want to let the season play out before a deal is struck.  It's a risky proposition in some...

51-42, 1st place, 1.5 games ahead of Cleveland. OK, that didn’t go so well. I look at it as Scherzer losing 4-1, let down considerably by his teammates. (Is Alburquerque even worth mentioning? No.) The bright spots would seem to be Phil Coke (the inevitable response to being singled out for criticism in a game post – guess we need to keep it up, guys) and an RBI from Hernan Perez...

MLB All-Star Game Live: Max Scherzer, Matt Harvey Set to Start With Home Field Advantage on Line

12 p.m. ET: Some fans love the All-Star Game, and some hate it. Some think rewarding home field advantage in the World Series to the winner is fair, and some do not. The chatter surrounding the premise of the All-Star Game is often more exciting than the actual game, but love it or not, the game will still happen tonight at 8 p.m. This year’s affair is packed with the usual big...
