David Ortiz (achilles tendinitis): He will begin his rehab assignment this Monday, which will serve as the first hurdle on his road to recovery. He’s on track to return to the Red Sox lineup at the end of this month, so we’ll know more about his progress once he gets back to playing competitively again.
Mark Teixeira (torn right wrist tendon sheath): Reports surfaced today that Tex is targeting May 1st as a potential return date to the Yankees’ lineup. Word is he’s slightly ahead of the 8-10 week timetable originally given to him, with May 1st being approximately 8 weeks. I’m still a bit skeptical about such a quick return, but if he can make strides during the next month and be back to himself sometime in May, his fantasy value gets a huge boost. Take this news with a grain of salt until you hear he’s swinging the bat against live pitching pain-free before you get too excited.
Hiroki Kuroda (contusion to right middle finger): Good news out of Yankee camp today that X-rays on Kuroda...

Tim Kurkjian tweeted that barring any further setbacks, David Ortiz expects to be ready to take his spot in the middle of the Red Sox lineup in ten days. Ortiz has had numerous setbacks, and is a very large 37 year-old man, so it is still way too early to be excited about a return earlier than many of us feared. That doesn't change the fact that the sooner Ortiz can come back, the better.
Boston designated hitter David Ortiz is expected to return to the Red Sox lineup when they open a home series Friday against Kansas City.
Ortiz hasn't played this season because of an injured right Achilles, which limited him to 90 games in 2012. He began a rehabilitation assignment last week and went 4 for 20, including a home run on Thursday.
Boston manager John Farrell said...
David Ortiz is on a timetable to rejoin the Boston Red Sox in the middle of the third week of April.
The designated hitter plans to travel Thursday to the team's extended spring training in Fort Myers, Fla. He has been sidelined nearly all spring with heel inflammation after missing much of the second half of last season with a right Achilles tendon injury.
New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira says he's still on schedule to return around May 1.
Teixeira says Friday his injured right wrist is feeling better each day. Teixeira was hurt March 5 while playing for the U.S. team at the World Baseball Classic.

OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN
Yankees skipper Joe Girardi maintains his belief that once Derek Jeter returns to the lineup, the superstar "will be an everyday player again."
May 1 could be a big day for the New York Yankees, as they
are hoping to get shortstop Derek Jeter and first baseman Mark Teixeira back on
that date. Right-hander Hiroki Kuroda plans on returning well before then, as
the veteran is hopefully he’ll make his next scheduled start.
Teixeira told reporters – including Bryan Hoch of MLB.com –
that his goal is to...
Derek Jeter has resumed fielding activities. The Yankees shortstop started the season on the disabled list but is hopeful to return by the beginning of next month.
Jeter took 40 grounders on Saturday at the Yankees training complex. He has already been cleared for hitting drills as well.
Eduardo Nunez has been playing shortstop for the Yankees in Jeter’s absence.
Derek Jeter may not return to the New York Yankees until next month.
His replacement at shortstop, Eduardo Nunez, joined the team's long list of banged-up players after being hit by a pitch and is day to day.
''I was scared it was broken,'' Nunez said after Detroit beat New York 8-3 Friday. ''The pain hurt a lot.''
Yankees manager Joe Girardi...
Jon Heyman is reporting that Derek Jeter, Mark Texieira and Curtis Granderson could all be back by May 1st:Yankees people are mentioning May 1 as potentially the key date in their season. The team's medical people are suggesting, at least in behind-the-scenes conversations, that May 1 could be a target date for the return of three of their missing stars: Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira...
The value of a Honus Wagner baseball card not only continues to hold its value, but it continues to improve. Fans calling a toll-free phone number once used by the New York Yankees ticket office expecting to score some seats over their cell phones might be in for a real shock. Instead of getting Derek Jeter or CC Sabathia in a pre-recorded greeting, fans will be enticed by a woman's voice prompting them to a sex chat line.

The analysts, experts, baseball fans, and maybe science itself don’t think the Yankees will be good this year. With the massacre of injuries and both an April starting lineup and starting rotation, with an average age of about only 33 years old (you’d think it would be higher, I know) and a couple of old guys, one would say the 27-time-Champion...
