By Adam McGill From a fantasy standpoint, the first base position has always produced the most home runs.  It is the one offensive position where owners’ need a true stud because the difference between the first ranked 1B and twentieth ranked 1B is astronomical.  Below is my latest fantasy baseball off-season report, first basemen: Early Top Ten: 1. Albert Pujols, LAA – Even though Pujols had a so-called down year last season, he still hit a homerun every 15.6 at bats.  The 32-year old will be energetic in his first year in Los Angeles, so owners should expect another 35 plus homer season from “Winnie the Pujols”. 2.  Adrian Gonzalez, BOS – Gonzalez hit .338 in his first season in Boston with 117 RBI.  However, with all the preseason hype, his 27 homers came as a bit of a disappointment to Bo-Sox fans.  He will improve drastically in his second year, so a 40-45 home run season is not impossible. 3. Prince Fielder, MIL – For the time being Fielder is playing f...

What if Albert Pujols isn’t Albert Pujols?

The recent news of the falsified identity and age of another player from the Dominican Republic, the Cleveland Indians pitcher formerly known as Fausto Carmona, has baseball-watchers buzzing. Carmona is now/back-to-being Roberto Hernandez Heredia, age 31 instead of 28. He is certainly neither the first nor probably the last player to be outed this way. Carmona/Heredia was arrested...

The Detroit Tigers Love Their Beefcakes

Price Fielder has reportedly agreed to a $214 million, nine-year deal with the Tigers, making him just the third player in major league history to receive a contract worth $200 million or more. He joins Alex Rodriguez, who has done so twice, and Albert Pujols, who signed with the Angels for $240 million over 10 years in early December. Fielder is listed, perhaps kindly, at 5-foot...

Reyes, Pujols or Fielder?

The Eagle has landed. The last of the “big” Mohicans, Prince Fielder, has finally agreed to a mega-deal and now has a new home in Motor City… Rah, rah, or better yet, vroom, vroom… So now that the dust has settled, here is an interesting question first posed by Mets historian and ESPN New York statistician Mark Simon who asked via Twitter: Lets look at all...

Prince Fielder Heading to Detroit Tigers, Signs 9-Year, $214M Deal

The Ike-Man Cometh…

With Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder now in staking their claims in the American League, NBC Sports’ Matthew Poulliot lists Ike Davis as the second best first baseman in the National League in today’s Hardball Talk column. He projects their 2012 OPS and ranks the Top 5 as follows: Reds: Joey Votto – .990 Mets: Ike Davis – .864 Cardinals: Lance Berkman: ...

Your Morning Dump...where we'll take Adrian

Every morning we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump... It’s become popular sport to ridicule the notion of the so-called mystery team, but suffice it to say that at the start of the offseason, no one anticipated that Prince Fielder would end up signing...

Prince Fielder, 27, was more attractive to Tigers than Albert Pujols

Prince Fielder was, in many ways, the most attractive player on the free-agent market -- even more so than all-time great slugger Albert Pujols, who left the Cardinals for the Angels. Whereas Pujols is 32 and has suffered a slight decline in production the past few seasons, Fielder will turn 28 in May and has hit at least 32 home runs in each of his past five seasons, all with the Brewers.
