Deadspin:
Ah, Tampa. The balmy breeze. The sandy white beaches of acceptable granularity. The lingering fury of the most dyspeptic owner in baseball history. I speak, of course, of George Steinbrenner. Welcome back for another edition of "The Boss Files," our document-driven retrospective of Steinbrenner's life in Tampa in the '80s. We've already told you about how he ordered a former FBI agent to fix his overflowing toilet in the dead of night. Then there was the time Steinbrenner punked the FBI director himself, William Sessions. Now we bring you a quintessential Florida tale of almost unspeakable horror. It involves a land dispute, jet skis, and a massive, violent redneck. More »

New York Yankees Avoid Arbitration With Several Key Players
Forgive the tardiness of this post topic, but there was not a ton of “news” to break down here. Never was there speculation that the New York Yankees were going to non-tender any of their arbitration eligible players. The New York Yankees agreed to terms with Russell Martin, Brett Gardner, Phil Hughes, Boone Logan, Joba Chamberlain and David Robertson over the past...

Player Profile #117: Derek Jeter | SS | NYY
Derek Jeter‘s home run power was the subject of one of our top 100 offseason questions posts. Could he get the power back? Our conclusion was that he could get back to being a 10-homer guy like he was in 2010, but it would take some kind of special, throwback effort for him to really exceed that total. That’s just the life of an aging icon. Still, Jeter is probably a...

From David Waldstein:Just hours after Jorge Posada, their catcher of the past, announced his retirement, the Yankees said Tuesday that they had agreed on a contract with Russell Martin, their catcher of the present.

Have the Football Giants Overtaken the Yankees?
Our good friend on Twitter @ElieIsElite relayed a comment made my Mike Lupica today on ESPN 1050:
“There’s nothing bigger in this area than Giants football; not the Yankees, not the Mets, not the Jets, nothing! nothing! nothing!”
I am not sure I agree with this statement. Right now, the Giants clearly have overtaken the Yankees for the talk of the town. Check...

Prince Fielder Should Have Signed With the Yankees
Look, I’m a Braves fan. I’m not some biased, hoarding, ego-centric Yankee with an overinflated sense of self. I’m a baseball fan and I understand how this game works. I frankly despise the way the Yankees bossed around the little guy en route to their 27 championships. All that said Prince Fielder’s biggest chance for the most money he can possibly make...
