Felix Doubront isn’t sure if the bullpen is for him.
Doubront, who has been skipped in the starting rotation with Clay Buchholz back in the mix, figured to be a candidate to join the Red Sox’ bullpen. The left-hander is skeptical about such a move, though.
“If they said, ‘Go to the bullpen and warm up right now,’ I can’t do that,” Doubront told WEEI.com before Wednesday’s game at Tropicana Field. “I can’t do that right now. I have to wait for a couple of batters or one inning. But being quick, like those guys right now, I can’t.”
Doubront, who had some shoulder issues in spring training, started 26 of his 27 appearances this season, and all 29 of his appearances last season were starts. The Red Sox have six starters now that Buchholz is healthy, though, so they needed to make a decision about who would be bounced from the rotation. Doubront was the guy, but because the southpaw takes a long time to get ready, the bullpen might not be conducive with his style.
“I don’t think so,”

Don't look now, but your 2013 Carmine Hose have not only resurrected themselves from the worst season in a generation, they are now setting the pace in Major League Baseball. With 16 games left to play, they have a commanding 8.5 game lead on their nearest division rivals—and their Magic Number to clinch the AL East is 10. They have the most wins in baseball (88), the second...
BOSTON — This year’s American League wild card race is going to be — get this — wild. Six teams are vying for two spots, and the madness will culminate with a one-game playoff to determine who will join the three division winners in the ALDS.
The Red Sox have a stranglehold on the AL East and shouldn’t have to worry too much about the wild card race, but it’d be understandable...
The Red Sox begin their final home stand of the regular season on Friday with the first game of three against the Yankees. The Sox will also host the Orioles and Blue Jays over the 10-day stretch on their quest for October.
With the best at-home record in the American League, manager John Farrell says that there’s no place like home when it comes to tough games.
Hear what Farrell...
Carl Yastrzemski will be the latest Red Sox legend to be immortalized outside of Fenway Park.
The club announced Wednesday morning that the Hall of Fame outfield will be honored with a statue outside Fenway Park. The statue, which will sit outside Gate B of the ballpark, is set to be unveiled Sept. 22 before a game against Toronto.
The bronze statue will capture the moment prior...
Back in 2004, as the Boston Red Sox were on their way to ending the team's 86-year long "curse", plenty was made about the beard of Johnny Damon. Now, close to a decade later, we're still talking Boston beards. The difference? Nearly everyone on the squad has one...not just one dude.
Finally, team brass has noticed.
When the American League-leading...
(Photo: Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports)Red Sox infielder Xander Bogaerts has made the prestigious Baseball America Minor League All-Star Team as the starting shortstop. Bogaerts was the only representative from the Boston organization to make the team—although 2B Mookie Betts and SP Henry Owens made the second team. The publication lists Bogaerts as the sixth best overall prospect...
By any rational accounting, the Red Sox are in superb shape to win the AL East and host the opening two games of the Divisional Series starting on Friday, October 4th. That's by any rational accounting. But this is Red Sox Nation. With membership you check your 'rational hat' at Gate B's Buckner/Dent Memorial Hat Check Stand. It's Friday the 13th, the Yankees...
Red Sox closer Koji Uehara literally has been unhittable for the Red Sox. The closer has retired 34 consecutive batters, the longest run of perfection by a Sox pitcher all-time. Uehara has not allowed a hit since Aug. 17.
As the Boston Herald reported Wednesday, when Sox manager John Farrell was asked if he'd seen a run like the one Koji is on he...
The most coveted international prospect this offseason will be Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka. Teams are scouting the dominant pitcher and it looks like he is set for a big pay day this offseason if he does in fact come to the Major Leagues.
The teams that were scouting Masahiro Tanaka during his last start were the Yankees, Red Sox, Mariners, Braves and Diamondbacks, according...

The Red Sox have the largest lead in the AL East since 2004. Did the scoreboard operators in Tampa check that? Because this is reality - the Red Sox have been red hot as of late, hence the huge lead over Tampa Bay. In 2004, the Yankees had a 9.5 game lead over the Red Sox, then the Red Sox closed...
Mike Carp connected for a pinch-hit grand slam in the 10th inning as the Red Sox put another nail in the Rays playoff coffin with a 7-3 win Wednesday night.
Carp sent the first pitch from the former Fausto Carmona over the center-field fence. It was the first pinch-hit grand slam for Boston since Kevin Millar in 2003.
Carp said, "He hung a slider...
Guest article from our pals at TiqIQ:
Things are looking good at Fenway Park, where the mood has been set back to triumph and hope instead of despair and indignation. The Red Sox have enjoyed a strident streak since late August, going 13-4 in their last 17 games, on the back of great pitching and power contributions from all over the diamond.
The Sox’s season-long resurgence...
Hollywood couldn’t write better scripts. Day in and day out, the Boston Red Sox come up with some of the zaniest ways to win ball games. Last night’s extra-inning Mike Carp pinch-hit grand slam was just another chapter in this incredible season. The Sox now have a 9.5 game lead in the AL East and, ironically, have helped the Yankees get within...
