The Majors Detroit:
Putting aside their disappointing regular season series opener against the Twins, the Tigers opened up their home schedule with an 8-3 trouncing of the New York Yankees.
Doug Fister – who didn’t look his best – was good enough going five innings allowing three runs (all earned) on six hits while striking out and walking two. Drew Smyly shut things down in relief for a very impressive and nice bounce back outing going four innings allowing no runs, no hits and no walks. Smyly also struck out five earning the save.

DETROIT -- Never underestimate the power of Prince Fielder.
The Tigers' first baseman hit two home runs in the team's home opener against the New York Yankees Friday afternoon.
The first home run, off left-hander Boone Logan, appeared to hit a fan in right field, knocking him out.
The knockout home run, which happened in the bottom of the fifth, gave the Tigers a 5-3 lead.
