Figgy could be the longman...

Nelson Figueroa was poised to be the hero of the Puerto Rican team had it not been for the heroics of David Wright. Team USA had the Puerto Rican starter, Jonathan Sanchez ( Giants) on the ropes. In just 2 2/3 innings they had already scored three earned runs on five hits and two walks. Figgy entered the game in the third with two outs and two on, he finished off the inning without allowing an inherited runner to score. He then went on to pitch two more scoreless innings, without allowing a single baserunner ( no walks, no hits)....So far this spring Figgy has pitched 10.1 combined innings ( spring training /WBC ) in which his ERA is 0.00. If the Mets decide to go with a traditional longman, with Tim Redding on the shelf and in the doghouse Figgy would immediately have to jump to the front of the pack.
