Sun Sentinel:
Left fielder Chris Coghlan left Saturday’s game after his fifth inning at-bat with low back pain. He felt some tightness before the game, but thought he could play through it.
“It wasn’t until that first swing in my last at-bat where I really felt it,” Coghlan said. “I have a really hard time pulling myself out of a lineup. [Manager Edwin Rodriguez] just said go in and get some treatment.”
Rodriguez already had ruled out Coghlan for Sunday’s series finale. Emilio Bonifacio will lead off and start in left field. For the time being, it doesn’t look like Coghlan will need a stint on the disabled list. This could be a blessing in disguise for him. Coghlan is hitless in his last 16 at-bats with seven strikeouts. Since July 5, he’s 3 for 36 with 11 strikeouts…
After the game the Marlins announced a roster move. Effective Sunday, Mike Lamb will be designated for assignment.
