The Marlins on Tuesday designated right-hander Jay Buente for assignment and recalled right-handed reliever Steve Cishek from Triple-A New Orleans, giving them nine relievers. Buente arrived from the Zephyrs to take Josh Johnson’s rotation spot. Sunday, Buente went just three innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits, three walks and a strikeout. Buente was scheduled to pitch Saturday at Dodger Stadium. The Marlins have not yet determined who will make that start. One option is to designate it a bullpen day. Another is triple-A right-hander Chris Sampson, who the Marlins signed as a minor league free agent earlier this season. He made his organizational debut on Monday, getting the win after tossing six innings and allowing one unearned run on six hits with no walks and and a strikeout.
