The Marlins have made would-be free agent second baseman Omar Infante a contract offer, which he’s already rejected. Infante is hopeful of striking a deal that will keep him in South Florida next season and beyond. “One day we talked about it,” Infante said. “I think they’re going to wait because up to now we haven’t talked about it again. They said they wanted me and made me a proposal. I didn’t want it, so we decided to wait until after the season to start negotiating.” The Marlins really can’t afford to lose Infante. He’s a big reason they are much improved defensively. Offensively, he had a rough April, but from May 4 through Wednesday he was hitting .297 (121-for-408) with 36 multi-hit games.
