Whether in reference to the offense, the defense, or several individual players, most of us were wrong about some aspect of the White Sox going into the 2013 season. One of the best examples is Donnie Veal, who has been far from his dominant 2012 self. And now, according to reports, Veal is getting his third shot at the big leagues of the season. With the White Sox out of the 'thick of things' and nobody else 100% major league ready, it may as well be Veal getting this particular call-up. We saw how good be can be an MLB LOOGY last year. In 24 games, he posted a 1.38 ERA while lefties went just 3-for-32 against him. And heck, even righties only went 2-for-13 against Donnie Veal. Though things didn't start off well, they didn't start off horribly this season. He actually didn't let up a run through his first nine appearances. But he still didn't look quite right and then had his ERA jump up to 4.26 through his next three appearances. He then went down to AAA to 'get right' until he came back up in mid-May, only to pitch in two games before getting sent down again. Now with a couple more months of trying to get things figured out at Charlotte, Rick Hahn & co. hope he can come back and be the lefty specialist that we all thought he'd cement himself as going into 2013. If he doesn't work out, though, exciting prospect Santos Rodriguez will probably be the next lefty reliever to be called up. He's a fireballer with a very high ceiling. But don't rule out southpaw Charlie Leesman from getting a shot, either.
