The clock is ticking toward today's 4 p.m. major league baseball trade deadline, and as I write this Eric Gagne is still a Texas Ranger, and Scott Proctor and Kyle Farnsworth are still New York Yankees. Most reports have the Yankees, New York Mets and Boston Red Sox all still competing to try and pry Gagne away from the Rangers. As a Yankee fan, I care less about acquiring Gagne than finding somebody, anybody to take Farnsworth-less off the Yankees hands.

  • Going to be hard for teams to pick up that salary on Farnsworth, I think it's more likely to see Proctor get dealt away as he makes next to nothing.
  • Thing is, if it takes picking up some of the salary to get rid of Farnsworth I think the Yankees still have to do it. I am not a big fan of paying guys to play for other teams, but this is a case where that might be what the Yankees have to do.
  • Yeah no doubt the Sox keep pulling that garbarge, they are paying for a boat load of Renteria's contract and unless J.D. Drew starts to play ball then they will ditch him too and have a ton of cash going to guys not even on the team.
Gagne won't play in NY, he'll have to shave his goatee, and if he does that he'll lose all his toughness
  • The Yankees are dead. I don't see why they should be involved in trade rumors as buyers. It's clear to me that they are officially sellers now.
  • How can you say they are dead? They are 4 games out of the playoffs with more than 60 left to play. That is hardly insurmountable. I seriously doubt they are catching the Red Sox, but they are most definitely in the hunt for a playoff spot. They might not make it, but they are hardly dead right now.
  • I don't think they think there dead yet, 4 games out of the wild card that's doable. Yes they want to get rid of there great bullpen arms in Proctor/Farnsworth, but that's to make room for Chamberlain and another reliable reliever.
  • Yankees are dead? Aren't they on the rise? Wow. One of those look-at-the-facts-and-say-the-opposite statements, isn't it?
  • Saying the Yankees are dead doesn't make much sense even to the biggest Red Sox fan...if you look at some of the winning streaks the Yanks have gone on this year...4 games is not much to make up. Plus, Karstens and Hughes should be coming back in the next week or so, which will help.
