Whenever a young prospect is traded for an established MLB talent, the expectations are high for the prospect to provide returns to the team that traded for him greater than the vet that they traded away. When you’re a young prospect that’s being traded for the greatest pitcher in the big leagues over the last decade, I think it’s fair to say that expectations go out the window. So in a way, the Blue Jays will never “win” the deal that sent Roy Halladay to the Philadelphia Phillies: you simply can’t replace a Doc Halladay, no matter who the hotshot prospect you get back is.
Kyle Drabek isn’t worried about that, though; he’s been living with elevated expectation all of his life – being the son of a 13 year MLB stalwart and former 22-game winner will do that for a 23-year old. As the former top Phillies top pitching prospect, and now the key piece of the Doc Halladay trade, Drabek will be entering his first full season as a starter...
