Jay Bell is back with the Diamondbacks organization. Bell, who was with the club as a player from 1998 to 2002 and then as Bob Melvin’s bench coach from 2005 to 2006, will be Double-A Mobile’s hitting coach in an announcement made by the Arizona organization on Tuesday. Bell, an original D’Back, who signed a five-year deal prior to the Expansion Draft in 1997, will always be known for scoring the series-winning run in Game Seven of the 2001 World Series over the New York Yankees. The biggest season of his career came in 1999 when in a D’Backs uniform. During that season when the Diamondbacks made their first postseason appearance in franchise history, Bell had career highs in home runs, RBI’s, walks and runs scored. The now 45-year-old is right at the top of most of the organization’s offensive categories. Jay Bell is returning to the Arizona Diamondbacks as the team's Double-A Mobile hitting coach. Bell, who played for the D-backs from 1998-2002 and scored the winning run in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, served as the team's bench coach in '05 and '06 before stepping away from the game on a full-time basis to spend more time with his family.
