TEAMS: Kansas City Royals, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants
Former New York Yankees center fielder – and World Series champion – Melky Cabrera will play on his fourth team in four seasons in 2012 after the Kansas City Royals traded him to the San Francisco Giants for left-handed pitcher Jonathan Sanchez. I’m not sure Melky Cabrera was ever destined for stardom, but it is still a little surprising to see him take the path of a journeyman over the past few seasons. In fairness to the Atlanta Braves, Melky Cabrera had a weak 2010 – .255, four homers, .671 OPS – so it didn’t raise any eyebrows when they released him. What might raise some eyebrows though is the year that Melky Cabrera put up with the Kansas City Royals in 2011. Go ahead and take a guess at what type of line the Melk Man put up this past season. If you said .274, 13 HR, 68 RBI and 10 SB you’d be wrong. That was his solid-but-unspectacular production from 2009. This past season Melky Cabrera delivered a .305/.339/.470 triple slash l...

Cliff Corcoran: Royals do the smart thing in selling high on Melky Cabrera
If Kansas City is to become a real contender, smart moves like selling high on expendable talent is essential, which is just what the Royals did with Melky Cabrera, writes Cliff Corcoran.
Royals Acquire Jonathan Sanchez for Melky Cabrera
I really don’t know who the “buyer” is in this trade, but the Kansas City Royals have acquired left-handed pitcher, Jonathan Sanchez from the Giants for outfielder Melky Cabrera.
Sanchez had a very rocky 2011. He only threw 101 innings in 19 starts, and had ERA of 4.26. Sanchez has always had control problems, and 2011 was no different, in which he walked nearly...
Jonathon Sanchez For Melky Cabrera: Both Teams Better
Today, Dayton Moore and Brian Sabean completed a swap of two very talented Major Leaguers who up to this point have yet to take that next step toward stardom. Melky Cabrera’s name recognition is surely helped by the fact that he played for the New York Yankees but the fact remains: the man had a breakout year playing for the Kansas City Royals this past year. The Melk...

Lorenzo Cain Will Get His Chance with the Royals
If there was one person who was absolutely ecstatic about the Melky Cabrera trade, it would be Mark Buehrle who Cabrera murders, and Royals prospect Lorenzo Cain.
Cain was acquired in the Zack Grienke deal last winter along with the slick fielding speed demon Alcides Escobar. He seemed to be a lock to play for a rebuilding Kansas City club. At 25, Cain thought he was finally going...

Trade! Royals deal Melky Cabrera to Giants for J. Sanchez, Verdugo
On a day when the Kansas City Royals were expected to announce they were changing the name of their home stadium, they pulled a fast one and announced a trade instead. An intriguing deal, too, involving two principles with lots of talent and many flaws.
To the San Francisco Giants: 27-year-old outfielder Melky Cabrera, who had a career season in 2011, hitting .305/.339/.470 with...
Lessons in Kansas City
In case you missed it, the Royals and Giants made a swap sending Melky Cabrera to San Francisco and Jonathan Sanchez (and Ryan Verdugo) to Kansas City. I can tell you right now that the Royals are the clear winner of this trade. And that's not to say that Sanchez is a future Cy Young winner and that Melky is going to garlic fry his way out of AT&T Park (or get stuck in the...
It's Begun: Giants Trade Dirty for Melky Cabrera
Just read the news, oh boy: Hank Schulman blogged that the KC writer tweeted that Jonathan Sanchez has been traded for CF Melky Cabrera. He was able to confirm it. There is also an article on Yahoo on it as well, which reported that Ryan Verdugo was also included in the trade. Giants ThoughtsNot too surprising because Sabean in recent interviews noted that the Giants might have...
