Baseball America (BA) has been ranking the top prospects in each minor league since 1982. Every year, they talk to managers and scouts to determine which players in each league they believe have a future as a big league contributor some day. Earlier today, BA released their list of the “Arizona League Top 20 Prospects.” The list contains at least one player from nine different major league teams, including four from the San Diego Padres organization. The only other organization to have four players on the list is that of the Texas Rangers. Also worth noting, both the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Francisco Giants had three players on the list as well. Ranked third overall on the list is Padres shortstop Franchy Cordero. He is a left-handed batter, and according to Baseball-Reference.com, is listed at 6’3”, 175 lbs. This past season, Cordero had a slash line of .333/.381/.511 through 35 games with four doubles, six triples, and three home runs in 141 at-bats. He was also 11-for-11...

Haikuarrhea: Week 25 in Padres Baseball

In an effort to stay close to our roots, the staff at Padres Public, will offer-up a haiku each Monday to describe the previous week in Padres Baseball. Restricting our feelings to 3 lines and 17 syllables to describe a week of play is a massive undertaking, but (un) fortunately, we are more than up to the task. In this weeks Haikuarrhea there will be no Breaking Bad spoilers and...

Quo Vadimus: The Starting Rotation

“Dana, I’m what the world considers to be a phenomenally successful man, and I’ve failed much more than I’ve succeeded. And each time I fail, I get my people together, and I say, “Where are we going?” And it starts to get better.” – Calvin Traeger, Sports Night Towards the end of the second and last season of the great, short-lived Aaron Sorkin dramedy Sports Night...

Arizona League Pitcher of the Year

Summary: For the second year in a row, the Padres posted the worst ERA in the Arizona League. Unlike 2012, this years edition of the club did not have a collection of first-rounders scattered through the staff. While the top of the rotation was exceptional, too many innings went to guys with nonexistent command which cost the team a ton of runs. The team spent the year working out...

Hundley blast gives Stults 10th win

At first Nick Hundley thought his drive to left field in the sixth inning Monday night was going foul. “I gave it an extra look hoping” Hundley said after his tie-breaking two-out three-run homer gave the Padres a 4-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks before an announced turnout of 15869 at Petco Park. “I thought at first it was going to be foul. There was a lot of praying...

Cashner solidifying spot in Padres' rotation

Despite another tough loss, Andrew Cashner moved toward solidifying his spot as a major league starter. Adrian Gonzalez scored an unearned run and Zack Greinke combined with three relievers on a two-hitter to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers over the San Diego Padres 1-0 Sunday. Cashner (10-9) took a two-hitter into the seventh when Gonzalez singled with one out, Matt Kemp struck out...
