Fox Sports San Diego has launched on Cox and Direct TV, but fans that subscribe to other carriers are still on the outside looking in. I’m hearing the channel is fantastic, but as an AT&T Uverse subscriber, I do not receive FSSD. For those in San Diego that subscribe to UVerse, Time Warner, or Dish Network, you are still wondering if you will be able to watch Padres games in 2012.  I am being told that cable companies want to hear fans, which means "you" need to be proactive.  Outraged fans have told me, they were promised FSSD by providers when signing up.  Now fans are in awkward position, either stay with your provider and hope they pick up FSSD, or try to switch providers, pay any fees to get out of your contract and hope you can get an installation date before the season opener.  Awkward. If your provider doesn't carry FSSD, you need to speak up and fast! Click on the links below and let your provider know that you want Fox Sports San Diego, otherwise you may ...

MLB 2012 Preview: San Diego Padres

The NL West is a mess. There are five teams and four of them are right about at the same place. The fifth team, the team that is by far the worst of them all, is the San Diego Padres. After Jed Hoyer and Jason McLeod left to work with Theo Epstein in Chicago, the Padres turned the reins of the ever constant rebuilding process over to former Diamondback General Manager, Josh Byrnes...

Padres sign C Nick Hundley through at least 2014

Catcher Nick Hundley signed a contract extension on Tuesday that will keep him with the San Diego Padres through at least 2014. General manager Josh Byrnes says Hundley's deal guarantees him $9 million through 2014 and includes a $5 million club option for 2015. Hundley hit .288 with nine homers and 29 RBIs in 82 games last season. A second-round draft pick in the 2005 amateur...

Padres Sign Nick Hundley, Make Him Attractive Trade Bait

This afternoon, the Padres announced that they had agreed to a three year contract with catcher Nick Hundley. If you’re wondering why they would lock up their starting catcher now when they just traded for top prospect Yasmani Grandal over the winter, wait until you see the terms of the deal. The deal is essentially a two year extension, since it leaves his already negotiated...

Padres try to rebound from 91-loss season

The San Diego Padres think they'll be better this year. Considering they finished last in the NL West at 71-91 last season, there's only one direction they can go. The Padres struggled from the opening week on and managed to get yet another hitting coach fired before new general manager Josh Byrnes began to turn things around with a series of deals in December and January...

Padres C Hundley agrees to three-year, $9M pact

San Diego Padres catcher Nick Hundley agreed to a three-year deal worth $9 million on Tuesday. "For them to make a commitment to me before (reaching my goals), I look at that as a huge sign from them that they want me here,” Hundley said. “I appreciate that a lot." Hundley batted .288 with nine homers and 29 RBIs in 82 games last season.

Stauffer dazzles Dodgers in 3-0 shutout

There are still twoweeks left in spring training, but two observations are worth noting afterwatching the Dodgers and the Padres face off Wednesday in Glendale Ariz. One: Padres right-handerTim Stauffer looks ready to pitch the season opener April 5. Two: The Dodgersbullpen probably needs a little more work. Stauffer, alreadypenciled in as San Diegos starter against the Dodgers...

Daily Friar 3.20.12

Fox Sports San Diego officially launched yesterday. The only problem is, only Cox subscribers are able to view it right now. The reason for the new Fox deal was so that everybody in the greater San Diego area could watch the games. With two weeks to opening day it will be interesting to see what other providers get on it. All I can say is don't be mad at FSSD, it's out of...

Daily Friar 3.21.12

It was a big day for the Padres yesterday. A contract got extended, and the team pulled out a win last night. This team has been looking pretty good as of late driving in runs and getting men on base when it counts. It's interesting to note too that this team is staying hot even without the presence of Carlos Quentin in the lineup. In fact one of his potential replacements come...

Daily Friar 3.22.12

The Padres are in a very interesting, but good, situation at the catching position. In past years the catcher has been a revolving door. Not until recently with Nick Hundley have we actually had some foundation at catcher. He has a new contract extension, which I personally think is well deserved. The problem we have though is the two guys in the minors that want Nick's spot...

Padres lock up Hundley through 2015

The San Diego Padres today announced that they have agreed to terms with catcher Nick Hundley on a contract through the 2014 season with a club option for 2015.

Padres 3, Dodgers 0

Tim Stauffer was pleased with his fastball location. He was really excited about the placement of a blooper he hit in the fifth inning, though. Stauffer pitched three-hit ball for six innings and had a two-run single, leading the San Diego Padres to a 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday for their fifth straight win. ''Good placement on that one,'&...

An increasing trend in baseball: 40 steals, 100 strikeouts

For a speedy center fielder, Cameron Maybin must have been swinging for the fences in 2011. Besides stealing 40 bases last year, more than he’d swiped in his four previous seasons combined, the Padres outfielder struck out 125 times, also a career-high. It wasn’t the greatest of feats for Maybin, a long-heralded prospect and a centerpiece of Tigers-Marlins Miguel Cabrera trade...

Cactus League roundup: Strong Stauffer outing

PADRES 3, DODGERS 0 GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Tim Stauffer pitched three-hit ball for six innings and had a two-run single as San Diego won its fifth straight. Jamey Wright, a former starter who is trying to make the Dodgers' staff as swing man, started and pitched two perfect innings. Mike MacDougal and Kenley Jansen were among those who pitched scoreless innings for the Dodgers...
