The Daily News’s Adam Rubin is reporting that the Mets have signed free agent pitcher, Freddy Garcia.

The deal is a one year minor league contract. The full contractual terms of the deal are not yet known, however Rubin reports that if Garcia fulfills all the incentives on the contract he could make $9 million.

The Mets are hoping that the oft-injured Garcia can replicate some of the success he had with the Seattle Mariners earlier in his career.

According to Bill James’s projections Garcia should produce an ERA in the low 4s and win around 10 games, which would be very beneficial for the ball club.

Garcia is expected to compete with veteran Tim Redding and rookie Jon Niese for the fifth spot in the starting rotation.

It’s hard not to like this signing for the Mets, as it provides them added depth in the rotation, which they have lacked last year, and it comes with virtually no risk.
