After slowly but steadily fighting back from a 5-1 deficit the 8th inning undid what the Sox had done and gave the Rays a needed victory.- For the third time in four starts I felt Josh Beckett did not pitch that badly except for the home runs. Yeah, I know there’s a “other than that how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?” mindset there but it’s true.On Wednesday night Beckett had the early struggles but after the four hits to start the second he pretty well shut the door. Of the last 19 men he faced only two (Zaun’s double in the 3rd, Bartlett’s single in the 4th) reached base against him (not counting the botched bunt by Upton and the error that Longoria reached on).Over the last four starts he has faced 112 batters and his K rate has been an excellent 24%, slightly better than the 23% for the rest of the season.
