This one was a bit more work than may have been needed but it got the job done. The Sox had some chances early to put some big numbers up against Baltimore starter Jason Berken but he got some defense and hung in to get his team to the sixth inning.Paul Byrd did what the Sox needed from him. He was not pretty but as long as he’s keeping the ball down he’s the kind of pitcher who can shut off rallies quickly such as in the 2nd inning of this one when he got the bases loaded double play to slow down that frame significantly.With this start Byrd has now thrown 150 strikes in 226 pitches, 66%. This is right in line with his career mark of 67% and above the league average of 62%. This is exactly what Paul Byrd needs to do to be successful but he needs to avoid the walks (three on Wednesday night).If he can continue that I think...
