Pirates (11-9) at Phillies (9-12)
7:05 PM–Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
The Bucs look to win two in a row and take control of this week’s series in Philly. This is a four game set so a win tonight would not clinch a series win, but it would guarantee a split at worst and that wouldn’t be a bad outcome against the Phillies on the road.
Wandy Rodriguez (2-0, 0.56) vs. Roy Halladay (2-2, 6.04)
Wandy has been absolutely brilliant so far this season. Obviously he is going to regress somewhat, but lately his strategy of going right at hitters has been working wonderfully. He’s facing a Phillies lineup that struggled against lefty Jeff Locke last night, so hopefully Wandy can make them struggle again with a similar style of pitching.
Halladay made two terrible starts to begin his season, which freaked out almost everyone in Philadelphia. His last two outings have been much better, though, and while it’s possible that he could be nearing the end of the line, I’m willing to bet he’ll be able to hold his own for another season. He’s always been very tough on the Pirates and I expect them to have a hard time squaring balls up tonight.
Bucs vs. Halladay: Not very encouraging numbers
Phils vs. Wandy: Rollins, Young, and Howard have hit him well in a limited sample
