The Guru Contributing Writer It’s the rubber game of the three-game series tonight at the Trop. The Red Sox seek a split after Jon Lester’s lackluster performance in an 8-3 loss. The Red Sox (40-26) will look to keep the Rays (35-29) in the rearview mirror in the American League East standings. Alfredo Aceves (2-1, 6.57 ERA), fresh from Pawtucket, will face off against right hander Chris Archer (1-1, 4.91). In Aceves’ last spot start he went six innings, allowing one run on seven hits in a 9-3 win over the Phillies. Archer will be making just his seventh career start. Archer earned his first career win against the Red Sox last September, going five innings and giving up three runs. In the first two games of the series, the Sox and Rays have put up 29 runs. The Rays have hit eight home runs, the Red Sox have hit zero. First pitch 7:10 EDT. Here’s tonight’s starting nine: 1. Ellsbury CF 2. Nava RF 3. Pedroia 2B 4. Ortiz DH 5. Napoli 1B 6. Carp LF 7. Your Morning Dump...where Lester is getting everyone nervous.

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. In offering up the customary post-start self-evaluation here last night, Jon Lester didn’t mince words. “Just terrible,” he said before adding, “unacceptable” and finally, “horse-(expletive).”...

Jon Lester’s Rough Start Comes at Inopportune Time for Red Sox in More Ways Than One (Video)

The Red Sox were hoping that Jon Lester would be able to go deep in Tuesday night’s game. Instead, it was the Rays batters who went deep, unfortunately. Lester walked seven batters and surrendered three home runs in a start he’s not likely to dwell on for long. Unfortunately, it continues a rough stretch for him that spans beyond this one outing. Hopefully, it’s not one that...

Lester  Is mired in a five start slump and is 0-3  with a 6.90 ERA over 30 innings. Lester opened the season 6-0 with a 2.72 ERA,  so it comes as no surprise when Lester offered up a self-evaluation after...

Jon Lester’s Downturn Is Difficult to Explain, May Be Due to Recurring Mechanical Issue

For years, if you asked any left-handed batter in the American League who they least enjoyed facing, the answer was almost always Lester. That, of course, was due to the action on the 29-year-old’s infamous cut fastball, which Lester liked to start at a left-handed batter’s hip and move to the inside corner. Going back to Lester’s final four starts of the 2011 season, however...
