The curse of the inevitable bullpen catastrophe strikes again. Only this time, the offense was ready to combat the curse. Unfortunately for the bullpen, those guys don't pitch.

At one point or another, putting up big numbers was enough for the Halos to walk away from the game with a victory. It was the pitchers that needed the run support. Oh how the tables have turned.

Something as simple as a three run lead would suffice in the old days. And when I say old days, I mean a month ago. The Angels' present-day bullpen (sans Scott Downs and Jordan Walden), has seen their worst stretch of outings all season, and during a road trip as crucial as this past one, it was exactly opposite what the Angels needed.

What appears to be the story of the season, any game, any week, any month: enough is never enough.

Athletics 9, Angels 8

Game Notes

- Everyone knows how much the Angels are struggling. It began with searching for help in an inconsistent starting rotation. The Halos needed a pitcher that was going to get their team through enough innings to avoid bringing in relievers for too long of an outing. An inning or two, and straight to Ernesto Frieri to close it out in the 9th. But no. Zack Greinke is off to a shaky start as an Angel and this bullpen is no help. The absense of Scott Downs is an absence that hasn't flown under the radar by any means. Help.

- The Angels offense threw out run support via long ball this afternoon. Five total home runs (Kendrys Morales (2), Chris Ianetta, Torii Hunter, and Mark Trumbo) and the Halos still couldn't grab the win. Although it's frustrating, it isn't Apri. For that, I am thankful.

Halo A-Hole

Dadgum bullpen. DADGUMMIT.

The Angels will enjoy a Thursday off, back home in southern California. A day off is what this team needs at this point in the season. August is no joke. Post season baseball is around the corner and it is necessary for the Angels to mentally, physically and emotionally recuperate from a disastrous ten games on the road.
