As many suspected they would as soon as the Angels waived him, the Bucs have indeed claimed the former stud prospect…and current .168 hitter: Brandon Wood
As I said the other day, I think this is a worthwhile experiment. Is it terribly likely that Wood will come in and become the shortstop of our dreams? Of course not. But he might end up being an improvement over Ronny Cedeno (hardly an unrealistic expectation), and with all that potential, there’s a chance that he could realize it with a change of scenery and a new opportunity and maybe turn his career around.
And if he fails? Big deal. Better to give him a shot than continuing to run Cedeno out there every day, knowing the result is going to be a well-below average bat and maddeningly inconsistent defense.
It will be interesting to see how much Wood plays with the Pirates and how long they st...
