Pirates (10-13) at Cardinals (15-8)

8:15 PM EST–Busch Stadium, St. Louis

Here is the MLB.com Gameday

The Pirates will need to be a lot better on the mound and in the field if they want to turn this series around and defeat the first-place Cardinals. St. Louis leads the Central and currently holds a 5-game advantage over the Bucs, so it’s crucial for them to at least split these remaining two games.

Andrew McCutchen isn’t in the lineup for the first time this year (just a night off, no injury or anything that we know of). Pedro Alvarez moves up to the 5-spot.

Tonight’s starters…

A.J. Burnett (1-1, 1.38) vs. Lance Lynn (4-0, 1.33)

Burnett has been awesome in his first two starts as a Pirate. He allowed a few runs last time out against the Braves and didn’t have pinpoint control, but still managed to be very effective and racked up eight strikeouts. Lynn wasn’t even supposed to be in the Cardinal rotation to start the year, but he ended up there with an injury and probably won’t be going anywhere if he keeps pitching like he has. The righty is off to an unbelievable start to the year, and defeated the Pirates with relative ease last week despite Alex Presley‘s leadoff inside the park HR.
