Pirates (60-44) at Reds (64-41)

7:10 PM EST–Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati

Here is the MLB.com Gameday

TV: ROOT Sports

Here it is…the biggest series the Pirates have played in nearly 15 years. Tonight they finally get a shot at the Reds, who have been obnoxiously good over the last few weeks (20-2!!). The Reds have the best record in baseball and the Bucs are on their heels at 3.5 games back. It’s the biggest series of the weekend. I can’t wait to watch.

Lineups:

  • Pirates - Pretty normal – Travis Snider hits second, and Rod Barajas starts behind the plate.
  • Reds – no Joey Votto (hurt), Brandon Phillips (hurt), or Jay Bruce (terrible against Rodriguez). Gotta take advantage.

Tonight’s starters…

Wandy Rodriguez (7-9, 3.82) vs. Mat Latos (9-3, 4.17)

Wandy will be making his second Bucco start, and it’s a big one. His debut was OK but he was uncharacteristically wild…something he won’t be able to get away with against the Reds. Wandy’s final start as an Astro came against the Reds; he gave up three runs in six innings (7 H, 3 BB, 6 K).

Latos has been kind of inconsistent for the Reds, but he has ace potential and has generally been much better of late. If he’s in the zone, the Bucs will struggle to avoid a double-digit strikeout night.
