Colorado Rockies (56-80) at Philadelphia Phillies (66-71) Jeff Francis (5-4, 5.73) vs. Cliff Lee (4-7, 3.52) Time: 7:05 p.m. Citizens Bank Park Weather: Mostly Sunny, 87 TV: Comcast SportsNet Media: Twitter and Facebook The Phillies and Rockies open up a weekend series at Citizens Bank Park.  The Rockies have struggled more than the Phillies have this season.  It hasn’t helped that Troy Tulowitzki has been out most of the season due to injury. Jeff Francis has more wins than Cliff Lee, but his ERA is just over two points higher than Lee’s.  Francis doesn’t walk too many guys; in 86.1 innings, he only has 18 walks.  All the damage comes off the bat, as he’s allowed 110 hits in those innings.  That’s 11.5 hits per nine innings.  With all the strikes he throws, the Phillies need to come out swinging. Lee has been red hot lately.  In his last four starts, he has a 1.91 ERA.  In those 28.1 innings, he struck out 31 and walked just two. Who else is red hot?  John Mayberry.  Mayberry i...

In a Surprising Move, Phillies Activate Catcher Carlos Ruiz from the Disabled List; Disable Polanco

Wow, I did not see this coming. As recently as last week, the Phillies seemed to indicate that Carlos Ruiz would not be back in 2012.  Given the Phillies incredibly small odds of a postseason birth and the danger of playing on an injured ankle, I personally did not expect to see Chooch again in 2012. But, according to CSN Philly.com, Ruiz has been activated from the disabled...

Cliff Lee Gets No-Decision in 3-2 Walk-Off Win

A muggy night in Philly brought about the start of a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies. Cliff Lee was looking for his fifth win on the season, while the Phillies were looking to gain some ground in the wildcard race. Cliff didn't have a simple first inning. Carlos Gonzalez doubled with Rutledge on base, bringing him around to score. Wilin Rosario singled after...

Halladay Strong in Phillies Win Over the Reds

This has not been an ideal year for anyone in the Phillies organization, especially Roy Halladay. After landing on the disabled list earlier in the year, Halladay struggled to regain his usual form. In a 6-2 win over the Reds, Halladay finally looks like he is healthy again and back on his usual game. Over 7 1/3 innings, Halladay allowed just 1 earned run and struck out 5 batters...

Umpires lose track of the count during Ryan Howard’s at-bat (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. Expand instant replay! Expand instant replay! No, just kidding. Although I do think instant replay needs to be expanded and we need to make use of the technology we have at our disposal, the situation that arose during the Phillies win over the Reds on Thursday was just comical. Ryan Howard nearly drew a three-ball walk in the top of the third...

Gameday: Rockies (56-81) at Phillies (67-71)

Colorado Rockies (56-81) at Philadelphia Phillies (67-71) Tyler Chatwood (4-4, 5.53 ERA) vs. Cole Hamels (14-6, 3.04) Time: 7:05 p.m. Citizens Bank Park Weather: Strong Storms, 76 TV: Comcast SportsNet Media: Twitter and Facebook The Phillies enjoyed a nice come from behind victory last night.  Despite the victory, the Phillies couldn’t do too much damage against a struggling...

Late-Inning Heroics From Nix, Schierholtz Cap 3-2 Victory.

Final: Rockies 2, Phillies 3. WP: Jonathan Papelbon (4-6. 2.61 ERA) LP: Will Harris (1-1, 6.57 ERA) Citizens Bank Park did not have too much energy as tonight's game got under way.  Cliff Lee allowing two runs right away in the top of the first, and the Phillies failing to score in the bottom half after getting their first two runners on, definitely did not help that cause...

Rain Delay Reading: A Kyle Kendrick Visit is a HUGE PRIZE

Photo Courtesy of Corey Shaw AT&T sponsored a "Win at Home" contest for Phillies fans last season.  The top prize was to be a redesign of a family room and a barbecue with a Phillies player visit.  This visit was from Kyle Kendrick.  The winner was excited:  Fanning herself and repeatedly telling her friends how amazing it was to have Kendrick in her house...

Phillies 3, Rockies 2

Nate Schierholtz hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. Pinch-hitter Laynce Nix hit a tying, two-run double in the seventh, and the Phillies won for the 10th time in 14 games. Jimmy Rollins walked off Will Harris (1-1) to start the bottom of the ninth. Rollins advanced to...

McKay joins Rockies organization

From WXOW.com La Crosse, WISCONSIN The La Crosse Loggers Baseball Club announced today that former manager Andy McKay has been hired as the Coordinator of Mental Skills for the entire Colorado Rockies organization. McKay, who had announced earlier this year that 2012 would be his fifth and final season in a Logger uniform, recently resigned his post as the head coach of...

Phils Come Back and Walk It Off Against Rockies

PHOTO: AP The Phillies couldn’t do much at the plate against the Rockies Friday night, but they did enough to win the game, as they came back from a late 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 on a pinch-hit, RBI single by Nate Schierholtz. It was their 10th walk-off win of the season. NOT THAT FRANCIS GUY AGAIN I remember Jeff Francis from 2007 when he shut down the Phillies in the NLDS...

Pollypalooza Farewell Tour

We may have just witnessed the farewell tour of Placido Polanco in Major League Baseball, as he was placed on the DL yet again.  He certainly didn't garner the same amount of fanfare as Chipper Jones has this year in his final season.  Of course Polly hasn't called it a career yet, that's merely speculation on my part. Polly's second tour of duty with the Phillies...

Cole Hamels Takes On Tyler Chatwood And The Rockies

Photo: Philliedelphia/Kevin DursoThe Phillies pulled themselves together last night in the ninth to earn a 3-2 win against the Colorado Rockies. The first inning was not easy for Lee and the Phils, with the Rockies ahead 2-0 early on in the game.  The following six innings were uneventful, and the Phils finally started to show up in the Seventh. With two outs, Laynce Nix doubled...
