Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a deal with Jon Garland. The deal is a one year deal worth $6.25 Million with a mutual option for 2010 worth $10 Million.
If Garland wants to return for 2010 and the Diamondbacks decide not to exercise the mutual option, he will receive a $2.5 million buyout. If Garland rejects the option and elects to go back on the free agent market, he will receive a $1 million buyout.
The Mets thought of Garland as a backup plan if they did not sign Oliver Perez. Ollie according to multiple reports is still the Mets first choice and front runners, then you have the likes of Randy Wolf.
Ben Sheets might be on the board for recruitment but the last reports coming out of Texas says that he has a bum elbow (Muscle tear), so that might scare away the Mets and many other teams.
The Mets reportedly have offered Perez a better than the 3 year, $30 Million that was originally offered.
Time for the Mets to secure their staff with Perez who is the youngest free agent starting pitcher on the market.
