I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong about Gary Sheffield, I thought, as many did, that he would have a negative impact on the clubhouse and create turmoil as he fought for playing time.Sheffield has been quite the opposite, he's been a clubhouse leader for the younger players and since Carlos Delgado went down he has carried the offense. But anyone with common sense could have seen an injury coming, Sheffield hasn't played the field regularly in years and to expect a 40 years old, of his size/stature to suddenly start shaggy fly balls on a daily basis, was a recipe for disaster.While there's no major injury, he's already slowed by knee discomfort which will effect him both in the field and at the plate, without his bat in the line-up, with the injuries they have, this team is mediocre offensively.The Mets need to acquire a bat, they simple can't afford to hope everyone gets healthy...
