Just when one Tigers catcher is ready to come back another one could be heading to the DL.
During Wednesday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, Tigers catcher Gerald Laird left the game in the fifth inning due to cramping in his right hamstring as a result of sliding in to second base.
After the game the Tigers made one roster move promoting pitcher Jacob Turner to the 25 man roster for his start Thursday in the third and final game of the series with the Cardinals. The Tigers are also expected to activate starting catcher Alex Avila off the DL after his rehab stint with Triple-A Toledo. When this happens, one other move will have to be made.
At this point it’s unclear whether or not Laird will remain day-to-day with Bryan Holaday being sent down or Laird going on the DL.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland feared the worse when witnessing Laird slide into second.
