Pablo Sandoval hit a two-run double and sacrifice fly to help Barry Zito end a three-start losing streak, and the San Francisco Giants beat the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers 8-0 on Monday night. Angel Pagan and Hector Sanchez each drove in two runs as the Giants pulled within two games of the Dodgers for their closest position to first place in the division race since April 7. Zito (6-5), who had allowed 17 runs in 14 1-3 innings for a 10.67 ERA during the skid, defeated the Dodgers for the first time in 10 appearances and nine starts. He was 0-4 since his last win in the rivalry on May 8, 2009. It didn't start well when he walked leadoff batter Dee Gordon on five pitches. But Elian Herrera grounded into a double play and Andre Ethier also grounded out as the left-hander escaped unscathed. The Dodgers are 0-for the Bay Area so far after they got swept at Oakland last week. This is their first trip to AT&T Park in 2012. Melky Cabrera, coming off consecutive hitless...

Postgame Wrap: Barry Zito, Giants Defeat LA

Before Tim Lincecum became Barry Zito, Barry Zito was Tim Lincecum. Given Barry Zito’s horrid career on the Giants, it’s easy to forget that he used to be really quite good. Vintage Zito wasn’t quite as dominant as vintage Lincecum, but he was the model of reliability, posting 3-something ERAs almost every year, while never missing a start. The contract that he signed was absolutely...

Dodgers' baffled by Zito, Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Pablo Sandoval hit a two-run double and sacrifice fly to help Barry Zito end a three-start losing streak, and the San Francisco Giants beat the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers 8-0 on Monday night. Elderly Giants 'ball boy' catches line drive

An elderly "balldude" for the San Francisco Giants made a great catch on a line drive in foul territory during Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Your browser does not support iframes. In the third inning, balldude George Zarzano made the play while on one knee in front of the left-field bullpen as the liner came off the bat of Dodgers batter Elian Herrera...

Revisiting The Committee

Also, Ryan Vogelsong going deep into games can be part of the committee.  And maybe, hoping beyond hope, Tim Lincecum can do that, too. Santiago Casilla got the save last night, but boy, he didn’t instill a lot of faith in anyone.  Not Bruce Bochy.  One walk was enough to get Sergio Romo and Javier Lopez going in the bullpen.  And not the fans, who gave a cheer for Romo popping...

Postgame Wrap: Giants Blank Dodgers Again, Sniff Division Lead

Every June 13th in San Francisco will now officially be “Matt Cain Day”. Thank goodness, another dominant start and mayor Ed Lee was about to declare baseball season in San Francisco “Clayton Kershaw Season”. For almost four whole baseball games at AT&T Park, the Giants couldn’t get an earned run past Clayton Kershaw. Melky Cabrera’s 4th-inning solo home run snapped...

INTERLEAGUE, B*TCHES! A’s Fan Gets Stadium Stomped After Pouring Beer On Giants Chick

Dodgers fans are the worst. No, no, Phillies fans are the worst. No, drunk Tigers fans are horrible. Can we all not agree that San Francisco Giants fans are scumbags, too. Watch how they treated A’s fan yesterday at the Oakland Alameda Coliseum after he allegedly poured a beer on a Giants chicks. Of course she probably deserved it. What is this 5-on-1? ***** move, Giants fans....

Derek Norris gets shaving cream pie and Gatorade shower after walk-off homer vs Giants (Video)

Oakland A's catcher Derek Norris hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning for a walk-off win in Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants 4-2. To celebrate, Norris' teammates gave him a shaving cream pie AND a Gatorade shower as he was giving a postgame interview with Comcast SportsNet. It was a great time for Norris to have his first major...

Tim Lincecum has lost 30 pounds and is struggling because he is currently weaker than Clay Aiken

Onlookers, peers and pundits have identified three potential causes for the struggles that former Giants ace Tim Lincecum has experienced on the hill this season in San Francisco. Texas Rangers catcher Bengie Molina, who teamed with Lincecum (2-8, 6.07 ERA) … Continue reading →

Kershaw bested by Vogelsong for 2nd time

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Ryan Vogelsong pitched seven innings to outduel San Francisco nemesis Clayton Kershaw for the second time this season and Melky Cabrera homered to help the Giants move within a game of Los Angeles for first place in the NL West with a 2-0 victory over the Dodgers on Tuesday night. Vogelsong (7-3) followed Barry Zito's seven innings in an 8-0 win in the...

San Francisco Police to Dress Up As Los Angeles Dodgers Fans to Encourage Giants Fans to Play Nice

San Francisco Giants fans are going to need to be on their best behavior this week while the Los Angeles Dodgers are in town. Mayor Ed Lee announced Tuesday that the city will have undercover police officers dressed in Dodgers gear around AT&T Park to ensure that the Giants fans are treating the rival diehards with respect. There will also be extra officers patroling the area...

Postgame Wrap: A’s Hang Arouind, ‘Splode

One ball can change the dynamic of a game. Unfortunately, so can one call. Which is something A’s fans can mention when they remember losing this game. Chalk clearly kicked up on Seth Smith’s 6th-inning line drive down the first base line. Todd Tichenor called it foul. While my eyes disagree, my heart gives a sly thumbs up and my mouth says “thank you”. No no Todd, that envelope...

Athletics 4, Giants 2

Derek Norris hit a three-run shot with two outs in the ninth inning for his first major league home run, and the Oakland Athletics walked off with a stunning 4-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. Norris hammered a full-count pitch from Santiago Casilla (1-3) over the left-field wall to help the A's avoid the first three-game sweep by San Francisco in Oakland....

Hard Times Hard Feelings

We might be a little late to this story, what with the comments getting timed this weekend, but here we are. This may be the first time I’ve ever seen the Bay Area media and fans being referred to as…well, whatever these comments were.  Ever. I’ve seen them get referred as idiots (especially when Skip Bayless was a Mercury News guy).  I’ve seen them referred to gutless...

Dodgers-Giants Preview

The Los Angeles Dodgers arrive in San Francisco struggling offensively, their division lead over the Giants has shrunk significantly and they've had virtually no success in Nathan Eovaldi's starts. As bad as things are going, they could be poised to turn things around in Monday night's series opener given the way Barry Zito has been pitching. The NL West-leading Dodgers...
