The San Francisco Giants acquired second baseman Orlando Cabrera from the Cleveland Indians on Saturday.
The Indians will receive Triple-A outfielder Thomas Neal in exchange for the 36-year-old Cabrera, who was batting .244 with four home runs and 38 RBIs this season.
Cabrera, who can also play shortstop, has played for eight teams in the last eight seasons after spending his first 7 1/2 seasons with Montreal.
He has a career .272 batting average in 1,945 games. Neal, 23, had two homers and 25 RBIs in 60 games at Triple-A Fresno.
