TEAMS: San Francisco Giants, New York Mets
According to the Associated Press, the Giants have agreed to a one-year contract with outfielder Angel Pagan worth $4.85 million dollars.
Pagan, who was acquired in a trade with the Mets for Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez in December, was eligible for arbitration.
According to the AP, the 30-year old switch hitter can earn up to $150,000 more if he is able to make 650 plate appearances. That means the Giants are likely viewing him as their everyday center fielder in 2012.
Pagan batted .262/.322/.372 (0.694 OPS) with seven home runs and 56 RBI in 532 plate appearances last season. He also stole 32 bases and scored 68 runs for the Mets.
The Giants still have six unsigned arbitration-eligible players: Melky Cabrera, Santiago Casilla, Tim Lincecum, Sergio Romo, Pablo Sandoval, and Nate Schierholtz.
Salary arbitration figures will be exchanged tomorrow and hearings will take place Feb. 1-21 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
