Game 161 and the San Francisco Giants (75-86) dropped game two of their final series against the San Diego Padres (76-85) with a score of 9-3 on Saturday.
Starting pitcher, Yusmeiro Petit (4-1, 3.56 ERA), suffered his first loss of the season as he went 3.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits, two home runs, with two strikeouts. This also marked his shortest start of the season as well as the most runs he’s given up in an outing this year.
“He was throwing the ball well, I think the long inning caught up with him and the long at bat was the kicker,” said Giants’ Manager, Bruce Bochy, “He started making mistakes and that hurt as much as anything. In the end the long inning caught up with him.”
The bullpen was then called upon and was able to hold the game to 5-3 until the ninth inning when Bochy called upon reliever, Michael Kickham (0-3, 10.16 ERA). Kickham gave up four runs on six hits with one home run.
