Happy 22nd birthday, Hector Sanchez! Hope it’s all you want it to be.

Now onto a few quick links for those of you following all the hot stove action here at 22gigantes.com.

Remember, I almost always have the news here first, sometimes even before the beat writers do. That being said, here are some not-so-breaking news links that didn’t really deserve their own separate posts yesterday:

  • Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports tweets that six other teams besides the Giants are still interested in signing free agent outfielder Grady Sizemore. They are: the Cubs, Mariners, Nationals, Rangers, Red Sox, and Rockies.
  • Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman says item #1 on the Giants’ agenda this winter is signing Tim Lincecum to a multi-year contract. Heyman says the G-men want to lock up The Freak for four years, the last two years covering his free agency period.
  • Heyman also says Giants CEO Larry Baer is focusing on a long-term deal for Matt Cain.
  • Comcast Sports Net reports that both Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez are on pace to be ready on Opening Day. Giants head trainer Dave Groeschner was on CSN’s ‘Hot Stove’ last night and was optimistic yet cautious, saying “[Sanchez] will be on a regimented plan in spring training that I designed, trying to get him ready for April 5.” On Posey, Groeschner said, “We’ll have to see how he is when he comes to spring training. We’ll definitely back him off in spring training and kind of build him up towards the season. We may give him more scheduled days off and then as the season goes on, we will see how he’s responding and feeling and adjust accordingly week-by-week, month-by-month.”
  • Speaking of Comcast Sports Net, former “insider” Mychael Urban has launched a new blog. If you like his musings (and I do), check out Urbs here.
  • Despite all the question marks surrounding Frank McCourt’s agreement to sell the Dodgers, the club has been very active so far during the hot stove league, already locking up sure-shot MVP Matt Kemp to an 8-year, $160 million extension. The Bums have also signed free agents Matt Treanor and Mark Ellis, too (plus they re-signed Juan Rivera). Busy doesn’t always mean better, but the Kemp deal is a sign that McCourt isn’t just going to take the money (what’s left of it anyway) and run.

I hope you enjoyed reading "Giants’ hot stove update: Sizemore, Lincecum, Cain, Posey, Freddy…and birthday wishes too." I'm interested in your opinion on this article. Why not leave a comment at 22gigantes.com?
