San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval returned
to the lineup for yesterday’s Opening Day contest against the Los Angeles

Sandoval accounted for two of the Giants’ four hits in
yesterday’s 4-0 shutout loss to the Dodgers.
Sandoval had been dealing with an elbow injury that had sidelined
him in the middle of March. He appeared to be recovering before suffering a
setback over the weekend. His status for the start of the regular season was in
question, but he was able to suit up and will continue to play through the elbow
Over 442 plate appearances for the Giants last season,
Sandoval hit .283/.342/.447 with 25 doubles and 12 home runs. The 26-year-old –
who missed time last season after breaking his hamate bone – owns a career
batting line of .303/.353/.490 over parts of five seasons in the majors.
