San Francisco Giants
Los Angeles Dodgers
Brandon Belt's RBI single with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the San Francisco Giants a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night, their second straight walkoff win.
The defending World Series champions, however, were eliminated from contention in the NL West earlier in the evening when the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Angel Pagan hit a one-out single off reliever Adam Ottavino (1-3) and took third on Marco Scutaro's single. Belt, who doubled in the tying run in the eighth, hit a 1-2 pitch over the head of left fielder Charlie Culberson for his second game-ending hit this season.
D.J. LeMahieu singled and doubled to extend his career-high hitting streak to 11 games, and Nolan Arenado scored from second base on an infield groundout for the Rockies.
Buster Posey hit his 15th home run of the season for San Francisco, which was kept in check offensively most of the game by Colorado starter Jhoulys Chacin.

Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong has a nifty excuse for his struggles in 2013. It's not the broken finger that he suffered in the middle of May, it's not the fact that he's 36, it's not the fact that some fortunate peripherals pointed to an implosion. No, Vogelsong has "some questions" about whether or not his struggles are because of his participation in the...
The San Francisco Giants pulled the classic bubble gum prank on a photographer during Tuesday night's game at AT&T Park.
The CSN broadcast crew saw the bubble gum on top of the photographer's hat during the top of the second, with the photographer having no clue he was being pranked. The likely culprits were either Chad Gaudin or Tim Lincecum, neither of which...

An elderly woman seated in the upper deck of AT&T Park to take in the San Francisco Giants-Colorado Rockies tilt on Tuesday made the play of the night after snagging a foul ball during the ninth inning. These are not the elimination games the Giants wanted to be playing.
Last fall they were unbeatable in elimination games the type that kept them alive in the postseason. Knowing a loss would send them home they beat the Reds and Cardinals three times apiece on their road to the World Series.
The elimination games they're in now? The worst kind. The kind they don't care...
Hunter Pence joked with Giants third base coach Tim Flannery before Tuesday night's game that perhaps he was due for a big hit or two.
Or three. Or four.
Problem was, Michael Cuddyer had two of his own - and they both cleared the fence as the Colorado Rockies rallied for a 9-8 win against San Francisco.
Pence hit a three-run homer in the first inning, an RBI double in the...
Barry Zito's time with the Giants is coming to a close. The Giants probably signed him to his huge contract in part because he seemed to be able to out-pitch his peripherals, While he did so in Oakland, that ability seemed to disappear in San Francisco.
It was “Star Wars” day on the shores of McCovey Cove and Madison Bumgarner fit the theme.
His fastball was on hyperdrive. And his slider was nastier than the smell of a tauntaun’s entrails.
But the Giants are giving Bumgarner the paduan treatment after he threw so many innings two of the last three Octobers. So he was pulled after shutting out the Diamondbacks through six...
It was torture from the bottom of the eighth inning on during today’s San Francisco Giants’ (64-79) game as they battled against the Arizona Diamondbacks (72-70). Starting pitcher, Madison Bumgarner (11-9, 2.82 ERA), threw a gem giving up only four hits with nine strikeouts with 89 pitches in just six innings.
It looked as though the Giants had the win for Bumgarner in the bag...
The last pitch Yusmeiro Petit threw while he had a perfect game was the one that ended his perfect game. It was a fastball, thigh-high, over the outer edge, and Eric Chavez got around it and lined it to right. The ball was very nearly caught, but everything in baseball is very nearly something else, […]
Now, a few days later, last Friday night was…unexpected. To put it mildly.
I’ve often told people that being at Matt Cain’s Perfect Game was more special than being at one of the World Series games, because with a Perfect Game, you can’t force it to happen. You know you’re going to a World Series game when you buy the ticket. You never know when a Perfect Game will...
Jhoulys Chacin flirted with a no-hitter the last time he faced the San Francisco Giants.
Now he'll face them in a place where he has excelled.
The Colorado Rockies starter has pitched well at AT&T Park heading into Monday night's matchup with Tim Lincecum to start a three-game set.
Chacin (13-8, 3.16 ERA) battled through a high fever to throw 6 2-3 hitless innings...
Yusmeiro Petit comes close to perfection, the Pirates stay stuck on 81 wins, and Red Sox nearly sweep the Yankees, and more.
Marco Scutaro and Brandon Belt hit consecutive RBI singles in the eighth inning to help the San Francisco Giants edge the Colorado Rockies 4-3 on Wednesday.
The Giants loaded the bases with one out against Matt Belisle (5-7), and Scutaro followed with a tying single into right field. Belt's hit drove in Angel Pagan and gave San Francisco a 4-3 lead.
