Lady At The Bat:
Joe Girardi dodged a bullet last night. A self-inflicted bullet.By removing CC Sabathia with 2 outs in the 7th inning and replacing him with David Robertson, Girardi was setting himself up for a failure that would have left everyone in Yankees Universe devastated. The move could have led to a third straight loss to the Tigers, a slim 3.5 game division lead and demoralizing feelings among players and fans alike. For a while there, while Robertson was pitching, it looked as if all of these things were going to come to pass. But Robertson got out of the inning with the lead still intact, and the Yankees went on the win the game 12-8. When Girardi makes these questionable moves, he rarely explains them in such a way that is satisfactory to the people listening to him. Last night was no different. During his post game press conference, Girardi said his reasoning was that he "just felt it was time to go to Robbie." He also said something about Delmon Young hitting lefthanders a ...

From George King:
With Ivan Nova getting spanked the past two outings and Freddy Garcia failing to provide consistent length, the Yankees’ rotation requires a boost.
That is expected to be supplied by Andy Pettitte, but general manager Brian Cashman can’t predict an exact date when the 40-year-old lefty will come off the disabled list.
“We have to let the healing...
2012 LLP weekly power rankings – week 18
Baseball fans everywhere are energized, as August is when things get really exciting and this year might rank with the best ever.
And thanks to the newly added Wild Card spots, and one of the most competitive seasons I have ever seen, dreams of October are very real for many more teams than in the past.
The pennant races are on in all three...
Baseball players know that the occasional beaning is all a part of the game. Except that normally you don’t expect to get nailed in the head by one of your own teammates, which is exactly what happened to Yankees reliever Cody Eppley during the sixth inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Tigers.
Eppley wasn’t paying attention to the infielders throwing the ball around...
Model Kate Upton — whose career skyrocketed ever since she was named the cover girl for 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition — has become America’s sex symbol. She’s the girl we all want to live next door to.
The model and budding actress, who is reportedly dating Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, has been channeling another blond bombshell in recent photo shoots...
Chris Stewart went 2 for 4 in the Yankees’ win over the Detroit Tigers today, which begs the question, “should Stewart start seeing more playing time over the under achieving Russell Martin?”
As you may figure, it took the New York Yankees only a couple of weeks to make a Japanese-inspired dish for newly-acquired outfielder Ichiro Suzuki.
The new "Suzuki Roll" can be bought at Yankee Stadium and it looks mighty tasty:

Last night, we dodged a bullet. A hollow point. Casey McGehee - the newly shaven firstbaseman who is holding third for us until Arod's hand can once again grip a lobster fork - butchered a DP grounder, which nearly lead to a late inning collapse of Biblical proportions. Or at least the stuff of literary domain. ("That aint my style," said Casey. "E-5,"...

DETROIT (AP) -- Curtis Granderson snapped out of a short slump by hitting his 30th homer and driving four runs, helping the New York Yankees beat Detroit Tigers 12-8 Wednesday night and ending the Tigers' six-game winning streak.
Down 7-0, the Tigers chased CC Sabathia and closed to 8-7 in the seventh inning.

Mark Teixeira and Eric Chavez hit solo home runs on consecutive pitches in the eighth inning that put New York ahead, and the Yankees held on to beat the Detroit Tigers 4-3 Thursday.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi was ejected and threw his hat during a demonstrative argument with third base umpire Tim Welke after a fair-or-foul call in the fifth inning.

Last night, as the Yankees moved closer to losing their second straight game to the Detroit Tigers, a thought popped into my head that I am sure would be considered almost blasphemous had a Yankee fan known I was thinking it. (Actually, I tweeted it, but it seems to have gone unnoticed.) Here's the thought:Why even bother trying to make the playoffs if you're always going...
